Chen as a new generation of mobile broadband technology, LTE is booming around the world-the world's mainstream operators without exception into the construction and deployment of LTE, to promote the expansion of the LTE network, the user size is rapidly increased to about 150 million households. The latest statistics from the GSA (Global Mobile Equipment Suppliers Association) show that 474 operators are currently investing in 138 countries to build LTE networks. Of these, 22 operators have started offering LTE business services in 83 countries. By the end of 2013, 260 LTE networks in 93 countries are expected to launch commercial services. Notably, there are 11 FDD+TDD converged networks in 23 LTE commercial networks already launched in 18 countries worldwide. The development of dual-mode fusion, becoming more and more popular, has become the main trend of LTE ecosystem development. Why is global attention to the development of LTE integration? GSA Chairman Alan Hadden, vice president of China Communication Enterprise Association Chanjin, vice dean of Chinese Mobile Research Institute Huangyu, Qualcomm Company Global senior vice president and Greater China Region President Wang, for us to dismantle the LTE ecosystem integration development trend. Q: What are the key factors driving the development of the LTE industry? Alan Hadden: The key factor is the rise of smartphones. Smartphones accounted for 55% of all handsets sold globally in the last quarter, compared with 43% of smartphones sold throughout the year. The use of data traffic by smartphones is almost doubling every year. The key to this development is the increasing penetration of smartphones and the increasing use of smartphones by users. With the increase in smartphone use, users are increasingly using video, which is growing by 55% a year and is expected to keep growing at this rate for the next 5-6 years. There are more and more data traffic, and the main driver is video. In this change, operators want to provide their users with the best mobile broadband experience, so need LTE to support the growth of data traffic, support the growth of video traffic. Question two: Why is the world concerned about the LTE and FDD LTE integration development? Alan Hadden:lte itself is the 3GPP global standard for 4G mobile broadband Internet, and it has two modes, the FDD mode of "using the pair spectrum" and the "use of non pair spectrum" TDD mode. Today, LTE is the world's mainstream technology, can support the different needs of operators, can support the spectrum and non-aligned spectrum, can use the world's existing many band of resources. Global deployment of FDD and TDD networks can benefit from the overall LTE ecosystem. Chanjin: From the global development of LTE, although FDD started early, the industry developed relatively mature, in the global scope also has the vast majority of commercial networks, but TDD spectrum resources are rich. To promote the LTE fusion network, we can use spectrum resources more flexibly and fully. VeryMulti-operator has two kinds of spectrum resources, the network can make better use of spectrum resources, improve the user experience, and give full play to the benefit of scale industry. At present, some leading operators are already doing FDD and TDD integration network work, this will become the mainstream trend of 4G industry development. Huangyu: In the decade from 2010 to 2020, data traffic will grow by 1000 times times. In this traffic growth, there is a large gap in spectrum requirements, so the use of spectrum resources is very important. The FDD of light is not enough, TDD is becoming more and more important, so its value is also valued by global operators. Wang: LTE technology is a global single standard, it has two different duplex mode, to meet the needs of different regions and markets. Some regions and markets have only paired spectrum or mismatched spectrum, and we use these two different patterns to support these users. The difference between TDD and FDD is not significant, which makes it very convenient to build a global and unified industrial chain. At present, our technology already supports these two different duplex modes. Question three: How to promote the integrated development of the LTE industry in the world? Huangyu: More and more operators have seen the importance of TDD spectrum, but also realize that the LTE as soon as possible to create large-scale commercial network, so many operators are united together. Three years ago, China Mobile, together with a number of major operators in India, Japan, Europe and the United States, launched an international organization, GTI, in the hope of promoting the maturity of the LTE industry and the global deployment of the network. At the same time there is a very important goal, is to develop with FDD into a unified network. We do not want LTE to be an independent industry, because both technology and standards, TDD and FDD are unified development. In industrial development, each manufacturer does not want to engage in a separate industry line, only to do TDD or only to do FDD, because only to make them a unified platform, unified products, economic efficiency can be maximized. The integration of TDD and FDD will certainly become the standard direction of industry development, and only this kind of integration can bring the vigorous development of mobile communication, the global industry will benefit together. Four Q: LTE hot development, 3G is also important? Alan Hadden: This involves an important topic, that is, 3G fall back. Most carriers want their users to be able to use mobile broadband anytime, anywhere. But in the early days of LTE, operators often built networks in one city or several cities, what would happen if users left the cities? Users need to be able to fall back into the existing 3G network. In the early years of LTE development, 3G fall is very important, and is supported by operators. At present, 99% of smartphones on the market are backing 3G down. Five Q: China now open LTE large-scale deployment, will not have a certain impact on the 3G market? Alan Hadden:lte's development in China is bound to be very fast. From the operator's point of view, LTE technology is what carriers need to help them improve efficiency, deliver services at lower cost, and see their competitors on the LTE network, and they will launch the LTE network as soon as possible. Second, people want to be able to use the mobile Internet on faster networks. Although the current mobile internet has 3G support, but is not able to meet all the requirements, and 4G has the ability to better meet user needs potential. Another important factor is the smart phones mentioned earlier. Many of the high-priced smartphones already have features that support LTE, although in some countries and markets the LTE network has not yet started, and once the network has started, the LTE-enabled smartphone will drive the LTE market's share to rise rapidly. Q: In the 4G era, why should we emphasize speech solutions? Alan Hadden: It is logical for many operators to locate only data services when they launch the LTE network. But with the global popularity of LTE, operators need to allow users to also use voice on LTE, as LTE is growing in size, and the size of GSM will gradually decline. At present, some operators have enabled their users to switch to the 3G network while using the language, and then return to the LTE network when using the data, but some operators have introduced VoLTE (on the LTE network, let voice service go to the data channel). Huangyu: Voice is also an important solution for LTE, there are CSFB, dual standby two solutions, but VoLTE is the future of the real target solution. Because in the long run, 2g/3g to quit the stage, otherwise it will need to continuously put into maintenance. Not long ago, China Mobile and South Korea's Skt to achieve the world's first volte interconnection, this is very important for the entire industry. Only by doing multiple operators interconnection, volte can become a global most basic voice solution. Q: What is the meaning of multimode terminals? Huangyu: China Mobile this year to buy a large number of terminals are 5-mode 10 frequency band. Next we want to drive more bands to be supported because of the increasing importance of high integration and low-cost solutions. Only the introduction of this program can allow users to really get a global roaming mobile phones, and no matter where the phone bought, on which network can be used. Wang: for the handset terminal manufacturer, has the Unification Fusion technology, only then can spread the entire research and development cost. Therefore, the importance of multimode is obvious. In addition to supporting TDD and FDD networks, you need to support 3G networks. Because in most parts of the world, LTE network is superimposed on the 3G network, that is, 3G network can be in the 4G network does not cover the place can provide continuous service. So, 3G/4G's multimode solution is a very important part of the LTE industry's success. Question eight: Why is LTE's global development uneven? Alan Hadden: More than half of the world's more than 100 million LTE users are in North America, because the four major North American operatorsare pushing the LTE network to deploy across the United States. Market share of the second is Asia, mainly Japan, South Korea's investment and deployment. And LTE's growth in Europe is negligible, with a market share of only 3.7%. One of the reasons for this is that Europe has widely deployed HSPA and HSPA networks and is running very well, while the European economy remains mired in recession and investment in the internet has slowed; But as new spectrum resources are allocated, Europe's share of the global LTE market will rise.
