In many forecasts for 2014, Ethernet applications in metropolitan and WAN areas are expected to expand. This ubiquitous technology will strengthen its position as a broadband access, cloud computing interconnect and WAN media, further differentiating it from traditional TDM services. Here is the service provider Comcast Business's eight forecasts for 2014 Ethernet:
1 Mbps Ethernet is a new T-1
The Western Han Connecticut State of the United States has 10Mbps and 20Mbps Ethernet connections for the city Hall and 17 other city locations. Comcast Business, executive director of data Services at the company, said that this has become the norm in many cities in the United States, a situation that will continue to develop over 2014 years, especially as light becomes more prevalent.
2 This marks the end of TDM as the primary access technology
As T1 gives way to Ethernet, TDM, which supports packet and wavelength services, also has to give way. Citing data from vertical Bae group, Comcast said that 2012 was the first year we saw that the bandwidth purchased worldwide for Ethernet exceeded traditional service bandwidth, and that the gap would widen next year.
3 The difference between Ethernet LAN and WAN begins to blur
Oregon State and Washington, a family business that operates a number of bars, beer houses, music venues, hotels and theatres McMenamins is using Ethernet services to connect industries in these two states. Wan bandwidth was once a bottleneck between remote Ethernet LANs, and Ethernet will continue to eliminate this bottleneck in 2014.
4 Metro Ethernet will be redefined to remove "metro" from the metropolitan area Ethernet
As mentioned in the previous three forecasts, snack maker Utz Quality Foods uses Ethernet instead of T-1 to connect to facilities in three different locations. Tighe said he lobbied the Metropolitan Ethernet (Metro Ethernet) forum to remove "Metro" from its name and change it to "operator". He said it was clear that the application of Ethernet was gradually overtaking the metropolitan network, which had penetrated every market that telecom had touched, and he believed that the word "city" would be removed next year.
5 Private Cloud proprietary interconnection really begins to become important
One of the expanding markets for Ethernet service applications is in the cloud computing interconnection market. Data center, operator and digital service provider Union redevelop Marvell Center is using Ethernet to provide connectivity to its hundreds of-bit regional, national, and international customers. In fact, we are beginning to see that Ethernet switches from vendors like Cisco are more positioned as data center interconnect devices. We will see more and more cloud computing providers do the same.
6 Carrier Ethernet Interconnection has been a breakthrough year-through CE 2.0
In February 2013, Comcast's Ethernet based E-line and E-lan Services obtained Ethernet 2.0 (CE 2.0) authentication from the Metropolitan Ethernet forum operator. CE 2.0 expands the number of MEF-certified Ethernet services and increases application-oriented service class objects, as well as administrative enhancements. In 2014, there will be more and more Ethernet service providers receiving CE 2.0 certification.
7 SDN will be able to deliver Ethernet services faster
This is in line with what we've heard from SDN vendors and customers over the past year or so: simplifying configuration by automating. All Ethernet service configuration devices are organized according to the same software management principles that will facilitate this effort. In the 2014, this application of SDN will become more common.
8 "footprint" is still the holy grail of Ethernet suppliers
For footprint, Tighe is the ability to configure and deliver Ethernet services with existing facilities (wiring, equipment, space, power, racks, etc.). The stadium is becoming the best place to showcase the dazzling Ethernet service footprint. One example he offers is the Boston Red Sox (Boston Red Sox). They use Ethernet for Fenway Park and JetBlue Airport (their spring training venues and facilities) to support jumbotrons--real-time scores and statistical updates to facilitate fans ' participation. The Ethernet of these facilities will deal with the commissary, support fans Wi-Fi access, and provide the news media with an Internet connection to cover news, blogs and microblogs.
Another example is the Denver Mustang, which uses Ethernet to provide high-definition video coverage within the facility and provides more functionality at the team's home. Extreme NX and Enterasys are also doing the same thing for the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles. In 2014, Tighe said, there would be more of these high exposure Ethernet displays.
