Global mobile advertising (including smartphones and tablets) will exceed $100 billion trillion, more than half of all digital advertising spending, according to emarketer, a market research firm that released the global advertising spending report, the Forbes website reported April 2.
It is no secret that mobile devices are driving most of the growth in online advertising, and it is now more clear that mobile advertising has grown beyond expectations. 100 billion dollars will be a stunning milestone, and 4 years ago people didn't know that mobile ad spending would grow so fast. Less than 3 years ago, Facebook's share price fell after it was listed because it had no mobile advertising revenue and did not know how to get mobile advertising revenue.
EMarketer said mobile advertising spending will reach $101.37 billion trillion next year, up 430% from 2013, with mobile advertising revenue expected to grow nearly one-fold in 2016-2019, to around $196 billion trillion. By then, mobile advertising will account for 70% of total digital advertising revenue, and, more surprisingly, 1/4 of global media advertising revenue. The 2 countries with the biggest spending on mobile advertising are the United States and China. EMarketer expects US mobile advertising spending to grow by one times next year from 2014, while China will grow twice times.
Total mobile advertising spending in China and the US will account for 61% of the global market. The top five countries also include Britain, Japan and Germany, although mobile advertising in these countries will not be the main advertising channel until 2017. EMarketer expects Brazil to become the Nineth-largest mobile advertising market next year, with Indonesia growing fastest, from 21st to 12th this year. Interestingly, India will lag behind.
Although India has a huge mobile subscriber base, the market is growing relatively low, with less than $1 billion trillion in mobile advertising revenue by 2018.
