EMC or invest in MongoDB to enhance large data business

EMC appears to be a silent investor in MongoDB. This investment not only allows EMC to enter the field of database technology to handle large data, but also provides a way to significantly improve the performance of its RSA security and Isilon storage technologies.


MongoDB said in Friday that it had completed a round of financing of 150 million dollars. This is the largest single financing for any database manufacturer, NoSQL, or other company. The total investment that this round of financing brings to the company is 207 million dollars.

However, in Friday, Bloomberg quoted unnamed people close to MongoDB as saying that EMC was one of the investors.


EMC and MongoDB are unwilling to comment on potential investments. An EMC spokeswoman said in an e-mail to the CRN website that the company could not disclose the content of its portfolio. At the same time, a spokesman for MongoDB said by email that the company is not currently commenting on matters related to EMC.

Because of this performance, MONGODB technologies can significantly improve the performance of EMC RSA Security Solutions and combine with EMC's Isilon to extend network-attached storage technology and large data developer pivotal. Pivotal is a joint venture between EMC and VMware.


Shepard says MongoDB is not the key in itself. The key is indexing performance. In addition, because MongoDB database technology is produced for large data, EMC may also use it in the company's pivotal and greenplum large data technologies.
