About 6 years ago, in the summer of 2008, the New York University of Science and Technology (Polytechnic University) was merged into New York University (NYU) as New York University Polytechnic (NYU Poly), in the heart of Brooklyn. I received an invitation from President NYU John Sexton to become a member of the NYU and NYU Poly School Board.
I remember in my meeting with John Sexton that I had expressed to him that in this merger NYU would have earned a little bit of a dim treasure in his pocket. And if they can restore this treasure to its former glory, it is a great asset to NYU, to Poly, to Brooklyn, and even to New York.
As far as I know, engineering degree is the most valuable degree in higher education, from the data of ROI:
In the list above, you may be surprised at the NYU Poly's listing. But in fact, New York for engineering, data, and analysis of talent lookout. One of the top engineering schools in the city center is like bringing in a banknote printing machine.
Many NYU Poly students come from immigrant families, or from New York's public school system, which has been rising in recent years in the US, especially in New York, but in the United States, private schools still rely on their high quality education and high graduation rates as the first choice for high-income families. They are usually smart and diligent, and engineering degrees in a mega-city such as New York can usually bring them an annual salary higher than the sum of their parents ' income.
The value of a degree is determined by the market, which conforms to the most basic principle of supply and demand. Technical work in the still deserted recruitment market, a solo show.
We not only need to build more excellent engineering colleges, but also through the improvement of primary and secondary education to train the talents suitable for these colleges.
There is much more to be discussed on the subject of science and technology and education.
