EU force! Cloud computing strategy officially started

On the 27th, the European Commission formally announced the launch of a strategic plan to further develop the potential of cloud computing in Europe and looked forward to accelerating and expanding cloud computing applications in the economic field, thereby creating a large number of employment opportunities.

To implement this plan, the European Commission has put in place a series of measures that mainly include screening of numerous technical standards to ensure that cloud service users are assured of interoperability, data portability and reversibility, and the need for such aspects by 2013 Standards; support for certification schemes for "credible cloud service providers" within the European Union; contractual terms for "safe and fair" models for cloud computing contracts, especially for service level agreements; use of public sector purchasing power 20% of IT spending) to establish a partnership between European Union member states and related companies in Europe's cloud computing business, establishing the European cloud computing market, prompting European cloud computing providers to grow their business and provide cost-effective online management services.

The EU hopes that by 2020, cloud computing will create 2.5 million new jobs in Europe and generate 160 billion euros a year in output value, which will reach 1% of the EU's GNP.

Nile Krevers, member of the European Commission responsible for new technologies, highlighted the plan on the same day that cloud computing can bring about a shift in Europe's economy and Europe must not miss the development opportunities offered by the technology. Cloud computing technology helps to achieve large-scale cost savings in the economy. According to data provided by the European Commission, 80% of organizations adopting cloud computing in Europe have reduced their operating costs by 10% to 20%.
