Gecourt Rajaram Gokul Rajaram, Facebook's advertising product director, will join the mobile payment company, Reuters reported.
Square announced today that Rajaram will begin serving at Square next week as chief product developer, the square Register of point-of-sale products for retailers. The product allows retailers to use Apple's ipad tablet computer as a cash register. Rajaram will also be involved in other products, Square said.
Rajaram has been responsible for the development of the advertising business in Facebook, which accounts for about 85% of the revenue for the social networking company. Facebook has been under pressure to prove that its advertising service is effective and has long-term potential, and its share price has been lower than the 38 dollar IPO last May.
As more and more people visit Facebook on smartphones, the company has changed its advertising business over the past year, paying more attention to mobile ads that directly display the flow of information to users.
Maik Hudak (Mike hudack) will take over Rajaram as head of Facebook advertising and page product management. He previously worked for Rajaram's team, focusing on measuring the effectiveness of Facebook ads.
Square is trying to keep itself in line with the high valuations of 3.25 billion of dollars, and in recent months it has engaged in several high-profile jobs. It has also recently launched a large number of new hardware and software, including the ipad reader base and E-commerce site.
Retailers are extremely important to square's growth plan. According to Square, customers who pay with the ipad account for nearly half of the company's 15 billion dollar annual payment processing.
Rajaram joined Facebook in 2010 when his start-up company, Chai Labs, was bought by Facebook. He has been in charge of advertising service product management at Google.
