Facebook becomes the second largest mobile advertising company

News of Science and technology Beijing time July 28, according to foreign media reports, according to revenue calculation, Facebook has become the world's second largest mobile advertising company, after Google.

Facebook released its second-quarter results in Thursday, and despite the overall poor performance of the quarter, there was a bright spot that mobile advertising was booming. Earlier this year, Facebook had yet to earn a penny from its hundreds of millions of mobile subscribers.

In June, Facebook began to strengthen its advertising business by introducing "sponsored content" (sponsored Stories). The sponsorship content is in fact the advertisement that appears in the user message stream news feeds, is also the first advertisement which puts in the mobile application of the Facebook.

Facebook COO Lie Sandberg, Sheryl Sandberg, said in Friday that mobile advertising would generate 500,000 of billions of dollars a day for Facebook, at which time Facebook's mobile advertising revenue would reach $183 million a year. Because Facebook says the company has been very cautious about sponsoring content so far, this revenue figure will only grow.

In fact, 183 million dollars per se is already a big number, and by revenue, Facebook has become the world's second-largest mobile advertising company after Google. Pandora and Millennial Media followed, with mobile advertising revenues above $100 million trillion in 2011.

Facebook's mobile subscriber growth is also impressive: the past year has grown from 325 million to 540 million, up 67% per cent year-on-year, not including the 80 million users of Instagram, which Facebook bought a few months ago.

So, as Facebook executives say, moving will represent the future of Facebook. In a Friday earnings call, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Facebook mobile users were more active than desktop users, who were 20% more likely to log on to Facebook every day than Zuckerberg.

Mr. Zuckerberg also said Facebook is starting to prepare for the future, when the number of smartphone users in the world will reach 4 billion to 5 billion. Still, Zuckerberg says Facebook's production of its own-brand handsets has no real meaning.
