Facebook is adding a "News discovery" feature

According to foreign media reports, Facebook is adding a "News discovery" feature to counter existing news discovery applications.

According to the report, Facebook does not rely on links shared by user friends to publish interesting content, instead it uses "articles Related to ..." (Articles about XX) to provide users with a series of interesting content-sharing links. This could be one of Facebook's plans to fight Flipboard, Pulse and Zite.

For example, if you like American rapper Lil (Lil Wayne), you may see a feed content labeled "related to Lil", along with a music post about the singer that has been shared by Facebook. But these are the posts that the user's friends have not been dabbling with.

At the very least, this content-sharing approach can also be a personalized version of Facebook's ability to mimic Twitter's "Hot topic" (Trending topics). About a year ago, Facebook often displayed "hot articles" in the News Feed service. However, these links are diverse and are more of a sensational content that user friends automatically share through the "open picture" News-reading program. By contrast, "articles Related to ..." relies on the wisdom of all Facebook users to focus on the number of times an article has been shared. Of course, this feature will also lay the groundwork for new advertising methods.

Frankly, this new way of discovering links is interesting, and it heralds a specialized feed service with news as its sole content. Although the lack of photos and status updates for friends, it can take advantage of the habits of 1 billion of users, as well as its knowledge of your little bits and pieces to create a highly personalized newspaper. This poses a great challenge to existing news discovery applications.

The only problem is that Facebook, while pushing new content to the user, "pushes" the traffic out, which is the property of the link itself. However, some applications, such as the Rockmelt built-in a quick download and pop-up reading window, users can easily read without leaving the application.

By partnering with news Publishers, Facebook is also able to earn revenue while maintaining its flow.
