James Smythe, general manager of Ukom, said: "The growth of these social networking site users is mainly driven by people over 50 years of age." The group had little social networking sites a few years ago.  He said that over the past two years, among the adult Facebook users, the number of users over the age of 50 exceeds the number of users under the age of 50. The survey found that people over the age of 50 were more likely to visit Twitter than in the past, while teens under 18 were less likely to visit Twitter two years ago than Facebook. LinkedIn, a May-year social networking site, grew 57% per cent in the UK to 3.6 million.  LinkedIn's market capitalisation has soared 58% to $6.65 billion since it was launched in New York last month. The number of Facebook users in the United States was 140 million, up 12% per cent year-on-year, while in Spain the number of users grew by 7% per cent, and in France, Italy and Germany by 18%, 26% and 72% respectively, according to Ukom/nielsen data.  Twitter's users in the United States grew by 22% in the year to 48%, 58% and 100% respectively in France, Italy and Spain, but the number of users in Germany fell 11% per cent.
