Social giant Facebook will set up its first local sales office in Beijing's Wealth Center within a year to engage with local advertisers, according to WSJ News. The company is currently discussing leasing with office space, but it has not yet decided whether the employee's form of service is contractual or full-time.
American internet companies have long been interested in China, the world's largest internet market. They are constantly adapting to the local market environment and gradually opening up the situation. SNS giant LinkedIn is the most recent action, it has launched a simplified Chinese website to enter the mainland market. Facebook's Hong Kong office has been established for several years to provide advertising services to Chinese exporters and other customers interested in reaching out to global consumers, and has thousands of applications developers in the mainland.
"The growth of advertising in China is booming," says Vaughan Smith, VP of business development at Facebook, and there is a strong need to explore "better service practices". If you successfully set up a sales office in China, then this is the first time the company has deployed a local staff.
