According to foreign media reports, Facebook has rented offices in downtown Beijing to prepare for operations in China. Of course, Facebook still doesn't offer any social services in China.
The company signed a three-year contract with the Fortune Financial center to lease more than 800 square metres of office space in the Beijing CBD. But Facebook did not disclose the deal. Facebook has not yet begun decorating its offices, and the office has rented the top 3 floors of the 61 floors of the center, where the Forbidden City and the bird's nest can be seen.
Facebook's vice president, Wahn Smith, said at the Global Mobile Internet conference in May that while Facebook is not operating in China, it has been selling ads through its Hong Kong office to businesses that want to advertise international users. "Chinese exporters and developers have found that Facebook is a good way to advertise with foreign customers," he said. Our sales team has previously handled the business of these Chinese companies in Hong Kong. Now, we can provide more support. "In addition, Facebook has a large number of application developers in China."
Both the Fortune financial centre and Facebook declined to comment. However, it is certain that Facebook is trying to increase sales in Asia.
