According to foreign media reports, the Internet traffic monitoring agency ComScore's statistics show that the time spent by American netizens in social activities on Facebook continues to grow.
In December, according to comscore, American netizens spent 49.4 million minutes on Facebook, ranking all sites first, up 79% from December 2009. The ComScore report also shows that Facebook has reached 153.9 million U.S. audiences in December, up 38% from a year earlier. Facebook's page traffic grew 71% per cent year-on-year, to 76.8 billion.
Social networking site MySpace ranked second in all U.S. social networking sites on an independent basis, but its audiences fell 27% from a year earlier, while the total amount of time spent on MySpace by US internet users fell by 50%. LinkedIn, the business social networking site, ranked third, with 26.6 million independent visitors last December, up 30% from a year earlier. Microblog Twitter ranked fourth, with 23.6 million independent visitors last December, up 18% from a year earlier. The microblogging site Tumblr ranked fifth, with independent visitors growing 168% from a year earlier, to 6.7 million.
According to ComScore's statistics, Facebook has overtaken Yahoo, Google and Microsoft in terms of time spent by netizens. Hitwise, another Internet traffic monitoring agency, reported earlier that Facebook had already overtaken Google and other sites to become the most visited Web site in 2010.
