FixYa asked its service users about the five major issues that cloud storage customers encounter in Dropbox, google Drive, sugar Sync, icloud and box. The feedback received was thousands of, and the spokesman had no exact figures.
"Cloud-based file storage is becoming the intended way for file sharing these days, both in personal devices and workplaces," said FixYa's CEO, Yaniv Bensadon. "We want the FixYa cloud to have a bright spot in these differences so that consumers can make informed decisions that best suit their needs," he said. ”
FixYa employs volunteer staff to provide technical support information for its web site. Information is designed to help consumers repair and solve product problems themselves.
This survey found some problems that are common to most cloud storage services, such as synchronization issues. Where it can, FixYa also do its best to recommend ways to fix these problems.
Dropbox
Dropbox is one of the most popular consumer storage services. The company recently claimed it had 100 million users. Dropbox officials say 1 billion files are saved to the site every day.
Dropbox supports virtually every operating system, from desktop Windows,os x and Linux to BlackBerry, Android, and iOS on mobile devices.
The Dropbox respondents chose the "Security Issue" (40%) as their primary concern. Storage capacity limits are cited as second (25%), file synchronization is limited to third (15%), slow response is fourth (10%), and finally "other" (5%).
As of June this year, about 7% per cent of personal data was stored in the cloud, and the figure is expected to climb to 36% by 2016, according to Gartner, a market research firm.
Dropbox has handled a variety of security issues in the past, including this summer, a hacker that caused spam to be sent to some of its user libraries.
"More questions about privacy issues--like a 2011-year access without a password-have appeared in a small but significant security concern for the company and its products," FixYa in comments on the findings.
FixYa points out that FixYa users who rely on personal content such as Dropbox photos, music or entertainment are not discouraged by these security issues.
"However, individual users using Dropbox to store personal financial information or similar items will pose a security risk that should be avoided," FixYa said. "The same applies to mid-sized companies looking for a simple way to share bank statements or proprietary business information." ”
Google Drive
As for Google Drive, user complaints (30%) Top of the list are missing folders. Another 20% of respondents pointed to the problem of file synchronization.
Another 20% said they were uncomfortable with automatic conversions from simply using Google Drive to having to use Google Docs, and 20% did not like an unknown error when they used the service. The remaining 10% chose "other" questions.
Google Drive is the next step in Google's development of Google Docs Office components and data storage services.
"While security issues are not prominent among FixYa users compared to other cloud devices, drive still encounters some general usability issues that need to be addressed," FixYa said. "In most cases, these problems can be solved quickly." ”
SugarSync
Lack of QuickBooks support, ranked first (30%) in SugarSync user issues. QuickBooks is an enterprise accounting software. Because SugarSync does not support QuickBooks, it is hard for financial users to sell, FixYa said.
Another 30% of respondents complained about SugarSync storage space, or more specifically, the price of storage space. SugarSync has a 30-day free trial, as well as a 5GB free program "buried at the bottom of their registration page." "But overall," pricing is higher than other cloud services, "FixYa said.
Followed by 15% of people talking about their efforts to file synchronization, another 15% chose the itunes file issue as their concern, and the remaining 15% chose "other".
"itunes is a tricky place to share files between different devices when SugarSync encounters," FixYa said.
ICloud
According to 35% of FixYa's respondents, Apple's icloud storage service was hit after users updated to OS X mountain lions.
"Unfortunately, when users try to do a lot of things on the OS X mountain lions, they have a icloud problem," FixYa says, "Whether it's a subscription service, synchronizing between devices, or backup Les or other apps, the mountain lion's icloud is not perfect in any way. ”
FixYa recommends that users who are experiencing synchronization problems turn to Evernote. It says Evernote is a note-taking application that can do everything that applea1/4s "note" Apps can do, and can do "better." ”
In addition, the problem of not synchronizing files with non-Apple devices in icloud was pointed out by 25% of respondents, while another 15% only complained about synchronization between common devices. Another 15% expressed dissatisfaction with storage space and 10% chose "other".
Box
box, which has become the most popular cloud storage service in small businesses because of its local security features and management capabilities, has been hit by security and upload issues. 25% of respondents chose "security concerns" and another 25% chose to "upload the problem." ”
"While security issues don't pose a problem for large corporate accounts, FixYa users report security concerns for free personal accounts," FixYa said.
Although FixYa can't do anything about the security concerns of box, the users who are having trouble uploading the files do have the opportunity to restart their computer and clear the browser's cache, and then try again.
Box differs from other competitors in file sharing. While competitors offer basic functionality, such as file editing and sync with other devices, Box is a more collaborative platform locally and is the direction Google Drive is working on.
"This means that people can add comments to files that anyone can access, implement and view other users ' tasks about the file, and quickly and efficiently invite other users," FixYa said.
20% of respondents reported problems with backup files, as in "deferred response", 10% chose "other".
