2015 cloud computing server revenue will reach 9.4 billion dollars

Global cloud computing servers will be worth $9.4 billion trillion by 2015, according to the latest forecasts released by IDC, a market research firm.

The private cloud server revenue--the up-front integration and deployment of apps--will break 5.8 billion dollars in 2015, IDC said. From the public cloud server point of view, 2015 revenue will reach 3.6 billion U.S. dollars.

This change and technological innovation will profoundly change the IT deployment landscape, and the traditional IT environment will also be influenced by the business model. Cloud computing can dramatically simplify the management of data centers and it architectures.

According to IDC, the public cloud is often built on a server hardware platform with high energy efficiency, high density, cost-effective, and structurally not complex. The reliability, availability and maintainability (RAS) of public cloud systems need to be implemented through failover and virtualization at the software level. As a result, the average selling price of a public cloud server (ASP) is significantly lower than the x86 server.

IDC also disclosed that in 2015, the number of servers used to deploy the public cloud is expected to reach 1.2 million units, that is, from 2011 to 2015 to achieve a 21.1% annual composite growth rate (CAGR).

At the same time, private cloud systems will be built on high-end hardware platforms with more memory, higher I/O bandwidth, and more advanced CPUs, primarily to meet higher requirements for RAS. The average selling price of such a server system will be higher than the x86 server. IDC estimates that in 2015, the number of servers used to deploy private cloud shipments will reach 570,000, with an annual composite growth rate of 22.4%.
