On February 20, 2012, CA Technologies, a leading provider of cloud computing and cross-platform IT management, unveiled an Asia Pacific survey in Beijing that shows CIOs look forward to learning outside the technology area To new skills, in order to better respond to the changing needs of the job in a timely manner.

The CIO's Future Role (Asia Pacific) report examines a total of 270 CIOs in the Asia-Pacific region and found that 70% of respondents feel they need to learn new skills so that they can continue to be effective in the future. More than half (55%) of CIOs said they want new skills such as better understanding of regulatory and compliance issues, privacy and data protection laws, and the need to be aware of risks.

In the report, two of the following are the most frequently occurring CIO requirements, from which we can see the changes in the CIO's role: being technically competent is not enough; there is also a need to fully understand the changing nature of data processing Legal Consequences. The demand for this new skill is most pronounced among businesses with a staff of 1001 to 3000, of whom 76% of CIOs of such companies think the demand for this skill is the key to future productivity.

The report outlines cloud computing and a growing number of off-site (usually overseas) backups that have led to a knowledge gap. For CIOs, it is important to understand the impact of storing information outside the company and the country it belongs to.

Among other requirements, 54% of respondents wanted to improve their understanding of commercial procurement, 52% were willing to improve their negotiation and sales skills, and 46% wanted more legal capacity. Another 28% of CIOs want to enhance their service performance skills, demonstrating that CIOs want to understand business service requirements rather than just focus on the technologies they can offer.

Lionel Lim, President of CA Technologies Asia Pacific, said in a report: "The role of CIOs is now being challenged and redefined, and they need to optimize their technology plans to meet their business goals." CIO responsibilities need to shift from managing and maintaining IT to business service delivery, Ensuring Agility, Delivering Fast, Efficient, Productive, Cost-Effective Services Once CIOs can meet these requirements, IT will drive business service innovation and give them an opportunity to find new sources of revenue, further driving forward Business growth. "

The impact of cloud computing on the IT department is also quite significant. The main drivers of change cited most often by CIOs surveyed can be addressed by adopting cloud computing. According to the report, 91% of respondents view the growing volume of data, the growing number of mobile or decentralized employees and business innovation as a key driver of change.

The report added that 87% of respondents said they use IT to grow their business to their size, indicating that "Cloud CIOs" are making full use of and optimizing IT. Only 55% of CIOs who did not invest in cloud computing expressed the same opinion. Eighty percent of surveyed "cloud CIOs" think they need to learn new skills to stay productive in the future, compared to only 63% of "non-cloud CIOs" who expressed this intentions.

Lionel Lim, CA Technologies Asia Pacific President, added: "As IT becomes more integrated with other business functions, cloud CIOs can better harness the power of these new technologies to optimize the business value of IT."
