The Cloud Standards Users Association (Cloud standards Customer COUNCIL,CSCC) unveiled a new cloud-computing guide designed to accelerate the application of cloud computing in the enterprise, the end user promotion organization for cloud standards, October 5.

CSCC's "Practical Guide to Cloud Computing" includes possible ways for business consultants, vendors and end-users to practice in the deployment of cloud computing best practices, resource sharing and expertise, and enterprise cloud.

Lockheed Martin senior researcher and chief strategist Melvin Greer currently serves as chairman of the CSCC Steering Committee and CSCC Working Group of the Practical Guide to cloud computing. He said at the October 5 webinar that the institutions that are exploring cloud strategy have some problems with best practices.

Greer added that CSCC and the new guidelines are designed to guide companies in how to get started with cloud computing applications, how to complete their cloud search and provide some guidance on implementing cloud services.

Greer says the guide is a reference document that provides some practical advice when companies look for the best way to cloud computing. This guide includes comments from 200 members of the CSCC and feedback. CSCC members include CA Technologies, IBM, Lockheed Martin, and many other companies.

Greer said in a statement that Lockheed Martin's research shows that while customers know the benefits of cloud computing, users continue to look for ways to accelerate the transition to the cloud. In this regard, CSCC's practical guide can serve these users well.

CSCC aims to illustrate the fundamentals, definitions, and benefits of cloud computing through this guide, to delve into the driving forces of future development trends, economic factors and innovations, and to provide a cloud roadmap and some key factors that make cloud computing successful.

Greer says there are real reasons for some problems in the global business in the guide.

While publishing a practical Guide to cloud Computing, CSCC has set up a number of working groups to test the needs of the Enterprise for cloud computing standards and to help achieve a dialogue between enterprise and cloud standards organizations. Topics include business partners in the cloud, cloud interoperability, education, financial services, government, health care, law, telecommunications, and many cloud computing issues.

Greer said CSCC's goal was to introduce cloud customer perspectives into the discussion of cloud-standard-setting and to facilitate communication with standard-setting organizations.

Although CSCC does not have a cloud computing standard, it wants to take into account user needs in the process of standard development, establish end-user standard Rules, provide best practices, user stories, case studies, user requirements, gap analysis, and recommendations.

CSCC and its guidelines were launched at a time when the cloud computing market was in dire need of real standards. Some organizations have begun to set standards. IEEE has joined the competition to set cloud standards and has begun to develop cloud computing standards.

Last month, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the US government's main technology agency, unveiled a standard roadmap for cloud computing and a cloud Reference Architecture to guide federal agencies in applying cloud computing technology.
