Dell said in Thursday (August 23) that it would provide dedicated servers within the Dell Data center and external application and storage services to companies seeking to build private clouds.
Dell's "Cloud dedicated" (Dedicated cloud) program is designed to reduce the strength of the local hosting server's companies and migrate the work to Dell's data centers outside the company. Dell will provide IAAS (infrastructure services) services through a private cloud. This reduces the cost of deploying servers and managing services locally.
Dell says the program helps companies migrate applications to the cloud. This service level can meet the requirements of security and compliance. The service is bundled with storage and networking to handle a large or small amount of work. This program provides a number of managed service choices.
Dell has been expanding its cloud services by opening data centers hosting public clouds, private clouds, and hybrid clouds. Dell announced last year that it would invest $1 billion trillion in three years to expand its cloud, service and data storage offerings. Some of this investment is used to open data centres. Since last year, Dell has opened data centers in the US, Europe and Asia Pacific.
Market research firm Gartner said earlier this month that global IT outsourcing services will reach $251.7 billion trillion this year, with cloud computing serving as the fastest-growing market segment. Gartner said global cloud services spending in 2012 is expected to reach $5 billion trillion, a 48.7% increase from 2011.
Dell has also acquired many companies in the past few years to expand cloud services. One of Dell's recently acquired companies is Boomi. Boomi simplifies the deployment and management of cloud-based applications and existing enterprise internal applications. Dell acquired SecureWorks in 2011. The company is now at the heart of Dell's security offerings in the cloud. Dell is also trying to build Dell's cloud strategy with companies such as the recently acquired Virtual desktop company Wyse Marvell, cloud-based data backup and recovery services appassure, and security company SonicWALL. These companies were bought this year. Dell also said in July this year that it would use 2.4 billion of dollars to acquire Quest Software.
In addition to the new private cloud offerings, Dell will provide a preconfigured (pre-configured) public cloud and hybrid cloud bundle service for online ordering within a few weeks. These preconfigured services are provided based on storage or workload capabilities. Users can also pay hourly charges based on unpredictable workloads or cyclical trends that may soar at any given time according to cloud requirements.
Dell has also extended Dairyun to the UK, France, Ireland and Mexico to configure VMware vcloud Data center services. These cloud services are currently available in the United States and Canada.
Dell competes with Amazon, IBM and HP. HP is currently expanding its cloud services offerings through the HP Cloud website. (Compiled/Populus euphratica)
