HP reiterated its commitment to open source cloud computing standards at the Red Hat Summit last week. Hewlett-Packard's vice president for corporate Cloud http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/10820.html ">steve Dietch describes the differentiated functionality and compatibility issues with other cloud resources.
HP's strategy is based around the development of tools that manage mixed clouds. The hybrid cloud combines an internally deployed IT infrastructure with a public cloud resource. Dietch, speaking on the second day of the Red Hat Summit in Boston in Thursday (June 28), said that if companies had a good, pragmatic strategy, each would move to a hybrid cloud delivery.
Dietch says traditional It is homogeneous, hard wired and silo-style. Traditional it is not flexible and agile. Companies are so far unwilling, and perhaps never willing, to put all their applications in the public cloud. This is the reason Dietch says the cloud is the future of clouds.
As enterprises migrate to the cloud, traditional IT infrastructures will not disappear. Dietch says a forecast shows that it spending will reach $1.7 trillion a year for the next few years, but cloud spending accounts for only about 15%. ' As long as we are on this planet, the traditional it will continue to be important, ' he said to the meeting crowd. Dietch says the difference between HP's converged cloud and most other products on the market is the existing infrastructure that is compatible with HP's system support.
Dietch says the converged cloud model manages four tiers: the public layer, the private layer, the hybrid layer, and the traditional it. It supports multiple management programs, multiple operating systems, and hardware for major network, storage, and server vendors. Ditch specifically mentions Cisco, EMC and Dell's names. ' We understand that customers have existing investments, ' he said.
Dietch said that since the release of the fusion cloud in April this year, the converged cloud now supports more than 180 managed clouds, with thousands of public cloud customers and more than 675 of customers using hybrid cloud technology in an operational manner.
Dietch said the interoperability was driven by HP using OpenStack. OpenStack is a key component of HP's integrated cloud infrastructure. Use the open source cloud deployment model as a component of this service to support multiple management programs and operating systems. Converged cloud customers can also communicate more easily with other openstack-driven clouds, as the OpenStack cloud will have a common and open application programming Interface (API) framework. This is an ecological system.
However, HP is competing in a crowded IaaS (infrastructure, service) market. Amazon Web Services is the dominant IaaS provider, and many providers are trying to capture the market share of Amazon Web services or target the edge market. At the same time, two major PAAs (Platform-service) vendors have recently entered the IaaS market. Microsoft recently announced the expansion of its Azure PAAs platform to include IaaS products. This platform includes Windows and Linux operating systems. Google, which has its own app products, released an IaaS product at its I/O conference last week to supplement its app PAAs offerings.
For HP to move forward, Dietch said, he asked HP to put himself in the customer's shoes by leveraging its existing infrastructure, researching the extra features of the cloud, hosting new applications or providing faster, more flexible platforms to better serve the business.
