Recently, IBM has released a new unique development environment and function as a service (Capabilities-as-a-service), to help customers and developers quickly deploy a "mixed" cloud environment, so that enterprises embrace the era of innovation. Under the plan, IBM will invest more than 1 billion dollars to develop software cloud computing and launch new features based on the SoftLayer platform.

This release shows that IBM is committed to addressing three fundamental issues to help the enterprise quickly deploy a mixed cloud environment.

1 allows enterprise developers to use cloud technology: According to Evans data, there are more than 18 million software developers worldwide, but staff working on cloud-based software are less than 25%[1. As the IT industry continues to grow in the direction of cloud computing, millions of developers are beginning to hope for the right tools and services to help them grasp this fast-growing opportunity.

2 to achieve the integration of the entire enterprise: companies want to innovate and create great value in this new hybrid cloud era--a participatory system (built on mobile and social technologies, based on these technologies and platforms, where customers interact and interact with the business) and record-oriented systems, These systems enable the processing of data and transactions.

3 Create an open ecosystem and platform for product development to accelerate innovation and growth: developers want to support the cloud era with a dynamic application development environment. The new development platform should be open and flexible to allow both in-house developers and independent development companies to create applications more easily and connect them to existing computing systems.

Faced with these market demand, IBM announced the introduction of three sets of cloud features:

1 IBM is applying its extensive enterprise-class software products to the cloud and launching a beta version of Bluemix. As a new platform, a service (PaaS) with the advantage of IBM software, Third-party products, and open technology, Bluemix can provide devops in the cloud to create an open, scalable, integrated development experience. DevOps Services can help developers, independent development companies, and enterprise teams build enterprise-class applications more quickly and efficiently. The DevOps service also allows developers to focus more on delivering new functionality to their customers by understanding the needs of their users. Today, IBM also announced its formal acquisition of Cloudant, Inc. This is a proprietary database, a service provider, that can help developers develop next-generation mobile and Web applications more quickly and easily. Cloudant will further expand IBM's large data and analytics, cloud computing and mobile solutions and become an important part of Bluemix.

2 IBM is extending existing applications easily into the cloud through predefined software "patterns" that extend middleware products such as WebSphere to SoftLayer environments. IBM and IBM business partners offer more than 200 applications and middleware models. IBM Software patterns is unique in that it enables application portability across a mixed cloud environment, which allows the enterprise to flexibly deploy applications and middleware in either out-of-the-or-preset situations, thereby significantly mitigating the management burden of a mixed IT environment.

3 IBM continues to invest in expanding the range of services available on SoftLayer, including through DevOps to provide critical application planning, development, deployment, and monitoring capabilities, providing system management as a service to extend industry-leading solutions to the cloud. IBM has announced that it is consolidating power BAE into the SoftLayer cloud infrastructure in order to go beyond the traditional delivery of more extensive and in-depth infrastructure services in the cloud.

Robert LeBlanc, senior vice president of IBM Software and cloud computing solutions, said: "IBM is striding forward to this era of innovation by working with developers to accelerate the deployment of emerging hybrid cloud computing in an open environment." We combine the advantages of developer ecosystems with the expertise of mobile, large data, and devops to build scalable models that can be easily scaled from one developer to the global team. Today's release shows another major step in expanding real cloud consolidation – not just in existing data and transaction processing services, but also in emerging applications. ”

IBM launches beta version of "Bluemix": Redefining the Cloud development environment

This new application development environment provides the speed and flexibility of a platform, a service (PaaS), so that developers can easily use the large number of software products that IBM offers to combine services, speeding up the mix and building enterprise-class applications for the cloud era.

This "paas/service" portfolio is based on open standards and leverages cloud Foundry, thus enabling developers to avoid problems with vendor bindings while allowing them to exploit existing applications to develop assets and skills that are critical to building a mixed cloud environment. IBM is committed to providing developers with an open, flexible cloud environment that enables in-house developers and free developers to interconnect with their preferred tools in an extensible environment, whether IBM, Third-party, or open technology.

Based on IBM's commitment to the market and its leading position over the 20, IBM also announced that it will work as a founding member of Cloud Foundry Foundation to help the foundation promote the creation and promotion of the open source platform, the service (PaaS) ecosystem. * (Link to Cloud Foundry press release)

As part of the Bluemix service, IBM is building a series of developer services around mobile, Web applications, consolidation, DevOps, and data management. In addition, IBM continues to provide business application suite (SaaS) as a scalable, API based service to a broad range of developers, such as Watson, business, security, analytics, and marketing. By using Bluemix, for example, developers will be able to leverage middleware services to build new sales applications so that retailers can view inventory management information from the recording system during their interactions with customers.

The Bluemix DevOps Service provides a complete experience to help developers speed Time-to-market and improve product quality. DevOps includes services for saving and managing code (using commonly used git repositories), built-in Web integrated development environment (IDE), and eclipse-visual Studio integration that allows developers to use any environment. The DevOps service allows developers to develop flexible planning and tracking so that entire team members can share work and collaborate, simplify the delivery process of new features by applying automation, improve the quality of mobile services, and accelerate discovery issues and modifications through performance monitoring. By covering the entire software delivery lifecycle, the DevOps service will be able to help developers transform ideas into applications at a faster rate to truly meet user needs.

In the automotive industry, networking vehicles will increasingly rely on powerful it architectures, and cloud computing will become increasingly important. Multinational enterprise Continental is using the Bluemix platform to provide cloud-based network solutions to pave the way for "automated driving" (automated driving).

"IBM Investment build Bluemix help Continental solve big problems," said Brian Droessler, vice president of Continental Automotive BAE software and vehicle networking solutions Enables us to significantly speed up the development of network solutions in the cloud. The car industry is moving into the web as well as other devices, and we see great opportunities for interoperability, and using the Bluemix platform will enable us to change the future of mobile technology, creating value for drivers and allowing them to drive more safely, comfortably and efficiently. ”

IBM applies middleware to SoftLayer via IBM Software pattern

IBM is using IBM Software pattern to apply a wide range of middleware products to SoftLayer. By using these predefined patterns, organizations will be able to maximize the ROI of existing applications by automating application deployment and management efforts.

IBM Software pattern can be migrated in both preset and non-preset environments, allowing enterprises to flexibly deliver applications and middleware to meet dynamic business requirements. Based on SoftLayer's pureapplication service beta, IBM Software pattern creates new opportunities for common it processes, such as the enterprise simplification devops. IT departments will be able to quickly create out-of-the-box environments in the cloud to complete application testing and quality checking, and then return the application to the preset production environment. In addition, developers can use IBM tools and services to create their own schemas (just one at a one-write and deploy them to a preset or non-preset environment), or from more than 200 software patterns provided by IBM and IBM business partners, from ERP/CRM, Business Intelligence is all-encompassing to web and mobile applications.

For example, independent software vendor (ISV) Exigen Ping FX chooses to use the IBM Web creator middleware to create application patterns for its own insurance industry solution. By using SoftLayer-based pureapplication services, Exigen is now in the new market area, allowing customers to choose whether to develop their own systems or run Exigen core systems throughout the mixed cloud environment, making it easier for customers to optimize overall costs.
