What is Huron?

A word definition: Huron allows your local data (libraries) to synchronize with the Cloud data center.

In simple terms, Huron provides database synchronization capabilities via a Sync service (Sync Services sitting) located in the Azure Data Center (Azure Centers), from your local database to cloud DB (SQL Data SERVICE), to achieve a local and cloud db "seamless connection."

The goal of the Huron project is to remove all the tedious steps that can be removed (including configuration, extension, and security), enabling it to easily share information from local databases (such as SQL Server and SQL Compact) to cloud DB. At the same time, Huron provides Easy-to-use interface configuration tools and, of course, provides synchronization components for developers to use.

Development so far, there's been a bad news: the MSF team decided to temporarily not support synchronization of Microsoft Access databases. Although many customers currently require this functionality, they can only be temporarily abandoned based on budget and resource considerations. The fundamental reason for this is that Microsoft now has a sophisticated synchronization framework (Microsoft Sync Framework) that enables synchronization of the SQL Server and SQL Compact. Because the development Huron on this framework inheritance is more than half the effort, the support Microsoft Access database is temporarily discarded.

For access users, Microsoft's recommendation is to consider porting the data in access to SQL Server so that it can synchronize with cloud DB until the final Huron supports access.
