Peter Skilman (Peter Skillman) Beijing time September 15 morning news, according to foreign media reports, Nokia Tuesday confirmed that the Palm pre phone designer Peter Skilman (Peter Skillman) has joined the company, and will be responsible for Meego's user experience and service department. Meego is a Linux based operating system developed jointly by Nokia and Intel and will be used for the next generation of Nokia N9 flagship handsets. Skillman has been in handspring and palm for 11 years and has been involved in the development of palm pre handsets. HP announced a takeover of Palm in April this year, and last week it was reported that Skillman had left HP. Although the Palm pre did not succeed, the phone's design and interface usability have been widely praised by the industry. Nokia has not commented on the new appointment, but the news suggests Nokia is aggressively recruiting talent to build a more competitive smartphone team. Nokia is facing fierce competition from Apple's iphone and Google's Android phone. Nokia launched a series of new devices at the Nokia World 2010 conference this week, and the company's executives also discussed the revitalization of the business. One of the most recent changes in Nokia has been the adjustment of several executives. Nokia announced last week that its CEO Kallasvuo (Olli-pekka Kallasvuo) has been replaced. A few days later, Ansi Van Jorki Anssi Vanjoki, executive vice president and general manager of its Mobile solutions division, also announced his departure. In Tuesday, media reports said Nokia Chairman Jorma (Jorma Ollila) would step down in 2012. Nokia spokeswoman confirmed Ollila's departure, but said the decision was made before the current round of management reorganization. Ollila has been a Nokia CEO for 14 years. During his tenure, Nokia became the world's largest handset-maker. He stepped down as CEO in 2006 and was replaced by Kallasvuo. To bring Nokia back on track, it is necessary to deploy new ideas and new management, but the company has had several rounds of management restructuring over the past 3 years. The appointment of new management is likely to slow the pace of the company's reforms again, and in the fast-growing mobile market, Nokia has little time to splurge. (PEI)
