Virtualization technology, like cloud computing, is a hot spot in the IT world, but unlike cloud computing, which is only a few years old, virtualization has half a century of history. From the start of mainframes, to minicomputer or unixhttp://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/13995.html "> server virtualization, to today's x86 server virtualization, is also a more than 10-year history, VMware, founded in 1998, has long dominated the server virtualization market, and even Microsoft's virtualization has been suppressed by VMware for more than 10 of years.

The process of virtualization technology
The origins of virtualization, dating back to June 1959, Christopher Strachey (Christopher) in the "Time Sharing in SCM Fast Consolidator (computer time-sharing)" article, The word virtualization virtualization was first mentioned.
Virtualization, in general, means that the computing element is run on a virtual basis, rather than on a real physical component. Virtualization technology is used to maximize the use of hostile hardware resources.
The early development of virtualization technology was applied to mainframe, IBM's L.W. Comeau and R.J. Creasy designed a new operating system called CP-40 in 1964, which implemented virtual memory and virtual machines. In 1965, IBM launched the system/360 Model 67 and TSS time-sharing sharing systems (time sharing system), allowing many remote users to share the same high performance computing equipment usage times. In 1972, IBM released Virtual machine (VM) technology for creating flexible mainframe computers to achieve the effect of fast and efficient use of resources based on dynamic requirements.
As a way to logically partition a mainframe to form several stand-alone virtual machines. These partitions allow the mainframe to multitask: running multiple applications and processes simultaneously. Because the mainframe was a very expensive resource at the time, virtualization technology was designed to partition as a way to make the most of the investment.
Virtualization technology allows you to run multiple operating systems on a single host, allowing users to take full advantage of expensive mainframe resources as much as possible. Virtualization technology then spread from mainframe to UNIX minicomputer, Hewlett-Packard, Sun (now acquired by Oracle) and IBM all applied virtualization technology to its minicomputer.
VMware
VMware was established in 1998 and then released its first virtualization product, VMware Virtual Platform, which enabled virtualization to be used on X86 servers by starting Windows 95 with VMware running on Windows NT.
Although X86 servers are not compatible with virtualization technology, compared to mainframes and minicomputer. But VMware has developed virtualization technologies for the X86 platform that can handle low usage and other problems and overcome many procedural challenges. VMware's research on virtualization technology has created a X86 era of virtualization technology, and for a long time, the server virtualization market is one of VMware's own.
Compared with Vmware, intel, AMD, Microsoft, Oracle, Jie, and other large companies have to issue their own server virtualization technology and products.
