To check which firmware version you’re using, go to the Dashboard and view the System Information widget, which shows the current Firmware.
To find out if a new FortiOS version is available, go to System > Firmware. If new firmware is available, a notice appears under Current version.
2. Updating to the latest firmware
Under FortiGuard Firmware, select Latest. A notice may appear stating that there is no valid upgrade path for this firmware version. If this is the case, select All available instead and find a suitable firmware version for your FortiGate.
For more information about the upgrade path, visit the Fortinet Support website.
If no warning appears, select Release notes to learn more about the firmware build. Release notes are also available at the Fortinet Documentation Library.
To upgrade your FortiGate, select Backup config and upgrade. When prompted, select Continue.
Save the backup of your current FortiGate configuration, in case you need to restore it after the upgrade process.
Firmware can also be downloaded directly from the Fortinet Support website, then uploaded manually to your FortiGate.
3. Results
The FortiGate uploads and installs the firmware, then restarts. This process takes a few minutes. When the firmware is installed, the FortiGate login appears.
Go to the Dashboard. The System Information widget shows the new Firmware version.
