This year's Ubuntu is a bit different from the Ubuntu in previous years.
In other words, this year's Ubuntu has quietly entered the realm of cloud computing. A group of servers, connected through the network, forms what we call "the Cloud" ("Cloud"). However, the concept of "cloud" is not equal to the physical cluster of traditional servers, but is evolving through virtual technology into a new computing environment composed of many virtual machines. In the case of Ubuntu alone, it is through the Opennebula virtual architecture engine that these virtual machines (also called cloud nodes) are connected to make them "clouds". The Ubuntu 9.04 Server version contains such a virtual architecture engine Opennebula. When the cloud is formally formed, in other words, when the "cloud" is officially running, one of these particular physical servers is no longer so important, and if there is a physical failure, it can be completely replaced at any time without affecting the entire "cloud" of the normal operation. The cloud has a tremendous capacity for scalable computing.
With the release of the Ubuntu 9.04 Server version, Canonical Company, using this "cloud computing" architecture, launched a very novel network services (model), called "Ubuntu one." The service is currently in beta testing (limited to invitees). The service allows Ubuntu users to share a file with friends thousands of miles away (2GB free, 10GB needs to deliver 10 dollars a month). All Ubuntu users will be able to enjoy this service after the release of Ubuntu 9.10 this October 29. As long as you think about it, it's easy to see how the Ubuntu 9.10 version will bring thousands of Ubuntu users into a new realm. The meaning of Ubuntu one is the Sihai family!
The Canonical company has launched a service to build the private "cloud computing" Environment of corporate users (including consulting services and technical support). The Canonical company stretched out two hands, grabbing the desktop, grabbing the cloud, and using the latter (the cloud) to improve the quality of the former (the desktop). Ubuntu's business strategy is evident. Ubuntu client, beautiful, nice and free, the back-end cloud computing services of course charge. This business model is wonderful. Windows 7 will only make traditional price promotions, and the release of the Ubuntu 9.10 release will be jealous. With strong cloud computing behind the vast number of desktop users, is not a business innovation or invention? Who says free software has no business model? We say that the Linux filter dam (not XP Green Dam) is not to compete with commercial filtering software, but to engage in a new business model. Is it not worth the expectation that the Ubuntu 9.10 version of the USB flash drive gives people real enjoyment of cloud computing support? Sell commercial software, one-time, sell business services, and keep cash flowing. This is a clear truth.
Canonical also has a tool package called landscape, which manages the Ubuntu system for remote users, such as remote management of a Linux filter dam server. Internet café owners want to secretly replace the Linux filter Dam server, simply no way, landscape will immediately have a reaction, seize him did not run.
Note: This year, I personally saw the virtual machine Hot switch demo at Intel headquarters in Shanghai to realize the truth and potential of the Ubuntu one service. I'm sure Ubuntu has embarked on a very bright development path in cloud computing. It doesn't matter if you don't use Ubuntu, but you have to understand what Ubuntu is thinking and what it's doing. This year, Ubuntu cloud computing is slowly coming to us.
