Virtualization technology has been widely used, the cloud model calls to the business-centric focus of the virtualization application is also a necessary development.
Cloud computing is a lot of controversy. Its initiator suggested that it should be targeted for a radical transition to the traditional solid-state electronics or the World Wide Web. In other words, there is an irreversible change in the status quo.
As for other supporters, it may be prudent to downplay its radical aspect. They think that some places do change, but the cloud model is still in line with the status quo. The so-called "private cloud", the cloud that makes business customers safer and more secure, is a cloud strategy that is often used.
Even Stephen Eliot, vice president of the CA Company's infrastructure management and automation strategy, may not be as comprehensive about change or alternation.
After all, radical transformation is a more radical concept. Elliot tends to use the cloud model as a starting point, a particularly important point is that this is a continuous process: in this case, is a virtual unity. According to Elliot's point of view, cloud computing is basically a generally sound virtualization concept. In this sense, he argues, cloud models are an unavoidable consequence of the widespread adoption of virtualization. Key virtualization applications that call cloud models to business-centric are already inevitable.
"This is a business-first mindset, so the main questions to note are: ' How much will our customers pay for these services? ' Or ' we must maintain a certain benchmark and competitiveness with the subcontractor '. There are also questions about quality of service: services must be reliable and suppliers must be able to provide different levels of service to their customers. "he said.
This is emphasized in the enterprise (or private cloud) aspect, Elliot continued. "In the final analysis, it is about accountability: it is not good enough to virtualize everything." What cloud computing can do is to make it more accountable to CIOs or CEOs, or even to their own internal or business. ”
In the private cloud model, Elliot points out that customers do not need to buy IT services specifically. They do not have to pay it application (or service) fees. Because, they only need some kind of explicit service: Consider the software as the Service (Software-as-a-service), rather than the business process as a service.
In this regard, Elliot argues that customers are largely indifferent to the specific problems of information technology, such as the ability to trust. "The accountability system then takes effect: how can we react quickly to minimize the impact on revenue if there is an accident? I think there will be a huge increase in customer focus here. Yes, we are still in the early stages of the cloud model, but these practical service and service level assurance topics really resonate with customers. "he said. "It has always been used to evade risk. So while they may not necessarily develop and discuss cloud computing issues, there is no doubt that these customer-related features and solutions are very relevant to cloud computing. ”
As a commercial customer, Elliot said, the transition to corporate cloud computing is also inevitable. "I think that the discussion of defining a private infrastructure that delivers services through a standardized platform will truly be a strategy for many companies." ”
Like other vendors, CAs have entered the competition for full cloud computing. On the private cloud side, Elliott points out that its recently launched Spectrum infrastructure Manager, electronic health care performance manager, and Spectrum Automation Manager series products are designed to facilitate IT professionals to manage their growing and increasingly pervasive virtual environments.
For example, Elliot said the CA's infrastructure retrofit Spectrum Manager and E-health performance manager now support VMware's virtual vsphere 4 and Cisco Systems Company's Nexus 1000V. As a result, the two products can perform event correlation and root cause analysis, as well as identify performance-abnormal users or affected services. In other respects, improved products provide new interactive reporting capabilities and can generate historical trend reports to support the ability to plan work.
Elliot admits that the current use of private cloud or corporate cloud computing is not commonplace, but will definitely involve the interests of customers.
"It's just the beginning of a journey, but people are just rushing on a journey, and now they just realize what kind of service they're offering, what kind of price they have, and what kind of economic advantage it has in terms of it?" He said.
