Gartner analyst Allessandro Perilli recently attended the open source http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/13423.html > Cloud Platform OpenStack Summit that This open-source project still has a long way to go before it can become a real enterprise platform.
The analyst said OpenStack is working hard to increase the rate of deployment of its companies. Despite the extensive promotion of suppliers and good marketing of public opinion, the enterprise deployment rate is still at a very early stage.
"Do not believe the news and vendor hype: OpenStack in the big business market is still very small penetration." ”
Of course, some large enterprises are using OpenStack, such as PayPal, ebay and Yahoo. But these are not the types of companies targeted by vendors. Why do you say that? He outlined four reasons, all of which relate to the process and community nature of the project, rather than to its technical maturity. This is not the first time Gartner analysts have poured cold water on the project.
The market is still confused about what OpenStack is. This is an open source platform that can be assembled together to build a cloud. In itself, it is not cloud computing. OpenStack needs some tedious work to turn the code into an executable cloud platform, which is why many companies are rolling out openstack versions of the product. However, the code itself is not a competitor to the cloud computing platform provided by VMware, BMC, CA, or other vendors.
OpenStack suppliers are not aware of the reasons why companies are involved in the project, and OpenStack companies have expressed their efforts to advance the project. But in fact, companies want to buy products from their suppliers by hearing clear and clear business models.
Perilli says there are now more than 17 suppliers offering OpenStack products, but there is no obvious difference between them, with only subtle differences, for example, when some vendors claim that their products are better fidelity to other public clouds, such as Amazon's cloud computing services.
