This steady growth has been in existence. Sales revenue for 2014 is expected to reach or exceed 11.4 billion dollars.
Tuong Nguyen, a major research analyst at Gartner, says the hype surrounding mobile app stores has opened up a market for many publishers and developers, further expanding the potential for sales revenue and competition in the market.
While we anticipate that most mobile gamers will continue to be attracted to "free" games, we expect that the pattern of ad support will not grow significantly over the next three years, although we have seen this approach succeed in the Japanese market, Nguyen added.
Gartner predicts that the total number of downloads from 70% to 80% of all mobile consumer applications is mobile gaming. Also, 60% to 70% of these downloads are "free". This trend will continue over the next two or three years.
Other factors driving the global popularity of mobile games include the growing number of access to mobile games in emerging markets and the growing number of small payments for mobile gamers.
