According to a Monday study published by DisplaySearch, a market research firm in the United States, the output of the 2012 global AMOLED (Active matrix Organic light-emitting diode) display panel is expected to increase three times-fold as the Samsung mobile display company improves the output of the next-generation display. DisplaySearch said the global AMOLED display panel output will grow from 890,000 square meters to 2.6 million square meters this year, when Samsung Mobile shows the company's new 5.5-generation AMOLED plant begins full production at the beginning of next year. AMOLED display panel is mainly used for mobile phones and small size tablet computers. AMOLED display is best for delivering video because it can display lifelike images and colors. Samsung Mobile shows a joint venture between Samsung Electronics and Samsung SDI, with 28% of the global AMOLED display market share in 2010. Samsung mobile shows the new plant started production in May this year and is expected to reach its maximum production load of 800,000 substrates in the first half of next year. DisplaySearch said the LCD panel maker South Korea's LG Display and Taiwan's friends of the photoelectric and Chimei electronics are expected to enter the AMOLED market within two years.
