According to foreign media reports, the famous digital certification service provider VeriSign published the latest statistical report that 2007 global Internet domain name has increased to 153 million.
In the fourth quarter of last year, global registered domain names grew 27% from the same period in 2006, compared with a 5% increase in the third quarter, according to VeriSign.
The highest level of country code domain names registered a total of more than 58 million, an increase of 33% from 2006. The report also highlights the significant value of the IPV6 network, which is the successor of IPV4.
The IPV6 provides important progress compared to the current IPV4 protocol, VeriSign said. The new IP protocol has more address space in particular, with greater flexibility when assigning addresses.
"The widespread adoption of Internet wireless devices and gaming consoles has led to a strong increase in demand for IP addresses, and we have taken steps to ensure that the global infrastructure has enough IP address space," said Raynor Dahlquist, the company's senior naming service vice president.
