Global Telecom in the Philippines will add 2000 3G and WiMAX base stations this year

"We plan to increase the number of 3G and WiMAX base stations by 1000 this year," said Gil B. Not only will the new base station be deployed, it will also be implemented by upgrading the old base station system.　　He said that global Telecom would focus on building "Wimaxad" base stations in urban areas because of greater demand for data transmission, and 3G network construction at the same time in both rural and urban settings, since 3G "could be used not only to transmit data, but also to develop voice and SMS services".　　Upgrading the network only requires the installation of new antennas on the current antenna towers, and the cost of building independent 3G and WiMAX base stations (including siting, towers, etc.) will be higher than the installed electronic products themselves.　　According to C114, Global Telecom is a subsidiary of Singapore Telecom (SingTel), as at the end of 2009, Global Telecom has 3,000 3G base stations and 900 WiMAX base stations, as well as 60,000 regular base stations. At present, the Philippine economy is developing steadily, but the voice service on the telecom market is only $3 ARPU, while the broadband ARPU value is as high as $20. At the same time, the country's fixed-band penetration rate is at a fairly low level compared with computer penetration.　　These factors prompted operators to optimistic about WiMAX's future development space, and have taken action to enter the market. In the Philippines, only global telecom and the country's largest mobile operator Smart launched the WiMAX business.
