Beijing Time July 17 Noon news, according to foreign media reported in Friday, AMD split out of the chip manufacturing plant globalfoundries is about to usher in the first customer. GlobalFoundries in San Francisco's Semicon West Trade show that the company is trying to open up a number of customers to diversify its chip manufacturing business, and the arrival of the first customer means that the company has taken a big step. The company declined to disclose the name of the new customer, saying it would be officially announced within a few weeks. This March, AMD split its chip manufacturing arm with the investment fund "Advanced Technology Investment Corporation" (Advanced Marvell Investment Co), which is in charge of the UAE government in Abu Dhabi. Joint venture established a globalfoundries. More than three months after its establishment, GlobalFoundries remained only a customer of AMD, and has been trying to change its image as an AMD chip manufacturing unit. Thomas Sonderman, vice president of GlobalFoundries Manufacturing systems and technology, says that the arrival of each new customer will help the company further out of AMD's influence, "as we begin to attract customers outside AMD and create our own characteristics, Over time, GlobalFoundries will get rid of the image of AMD manufacturing business. "But he admits it will take time to completely disengage from AMD." GlobalFoundries produces large amounts of CPU and other chip products for AMD, which holds a small stake. "Of course, AMD is an integral part of our business model and the only customer we have now," Sandeman said. We are committed to helping our customers succeed. "Most of the CPU technology obtained comes from Amd,globalfoundries as the focus of the controversy between Intel and AMD over patent interoperability agreements." Intel has authorised AMD to manufacture and sell x86 chips in a patent interactive licensing agreement signed in 2001, and AMD has transferred the production and sales rights to GlobalFoundries. In March this year, Intel submitted a notice to AMD that it violated the agreement by AMD to split the manufacturing business into an independent company. "We believe we are fully entitled to continue to produce x86 processors, but this dispute should be addressed by Intel and AMD," Sandeman said. "GlobalFoundries hopes to produce chip products for graphics and mobile phones for other customers to gradually reduce reliance on the x86 architecture," he said. GlobalFoundries has several fab plants in Dresden, Germany, and is planning to build a chip manufacturing plant in New York State. Dean M. Dien Mackallon, chief analyst at Mercury Research at the InstituteCcarron that because AMD has acquired rights in these chip factories, it is not easy for globalfoundries to completely disengage from AMD. GlobalFoundries's production blueprint shows that it currently provides AMD with a 45 nm process processor, with more advanced 32 nm technology next year. 32 nanometer process can reduce the chip size and power consumption, while adding more functions to the processor. In the next 2 years, GlobalFoundries will also use 28 NM technology to produce graphics cards and mobile device chips. Sandeman said the production of sophisticated six-chip chips for AMD (the Development code for Istanbul Istanbul) proved that GlobalFoundries had the strength to produce advanced chips. Mackallon agreed, saying that GlobalFoundries's mastery of advanced manufacturing technology is extremely rare. In addition to Intel, Gloalfoundries has increased competition in the chip manufacturing market, which was originally controlled by TSMC, which will drive advances in chip manufacturing technology. "TSMC is the main option if you want to use cutting-edge technology to produce products," he said. GlobalFoundries may have entered a declining market, but the company is quite powerful. He also said that the economic downturn in the major chip manufacturers have a bad day, GlobalFoundries need a large number of customers to achieve profitability. (Xiao Bin)
