Beijing Time February 19 News, according to foreign media reports, Groupon has bought mobile payment technology start-up company Kima Labs. Other media reports say Groupon also acquired Hyperpublic, a mobile location technology start-up company.
Kima Labs on its website confirmed the deal bought by Groupon and said it would close barcode Hero Barcode scanning service in Monday (February 20). This means that after Monday, users will no longer be able to download barcode hero apps, and existing users can download their data before March 16.
Kima Labs was founded by Breck Scours (Blake Scholl) and Jensen Claufford (Jason Crawford), with business focused on mobile shopping. Bonsecours also confirmed the news that Kima Labs was bought by Groupon.
Kima Labs's investors included Naval Lavicante (Naval ravikant), Rohn Camvil (Ron Conway), Owen Van Nata (Owen Van Natta), which also received strategic investment from the Washington Post Company.
The acquisition of Kima Labs and Hyperpublic is Groupon's two major acquisitions in the mobile world under the leadership of Mobile Vice President Michael SHM (Michael Shim). Shm jumped from Yahoo to Groupon 1 years ago. These acquisitions show Groupon's focus on the mobile business, which wants to offer group-buying services to users who are outdoors, or near stores, and even play a more central role in mobile commerce.
Groupon issued a statement saying, "The application of Kima labs simplifies the transaction, enhances the interest of the transaction, and offers more possibilities for the business." We are excited about the ability of Kima labs to develop the technology that consumers like. We believe that the Kima Labs team will be an important asset in our efforts to change people's shopping habits. ”
Bonsecours said the Tapbuy application would also be closed, "We have not announced the relevant plan." Like Groupon, Tapbuy offers group buying services, with partners including about 100 businesses, and using credit card information from users to pay for the business.
