Gu Samsung launches two new devices to run network-centric Chrome OS

Recently, according to foreign media reports, Samsung Tuesday officially launched the new Series 5 Chromebook notebook and Chromebox mini pc, two devices are running a network-centric Chrome OS system.

Chromebook

The Chromebook Series 5 550 looks similar to the previous generation Series 5. However, Series 5 550 has some important improvements. The Series 5 550 screen size is still 12.1 inches, the resolution is 1280x800, weighs 3.3 pounds, but the memory from the original 2GB to 4GB. Series 5 550 also improves processor performance, and the Intel Celeron dual-core processor replaces last year's Intel Atom processor.

Samsung says the next generation of Chromebook is 2.5 times times faster than the previous generation, and the startup time is reduced from 10 seconds to 7 seconds. Chromebook's Instant boot performance is now better.

But on the other hand, the new series 5 Chromebook's battery endurance has declined, and the range has been reduced from 8.5 hours to the current 6-hour period. Series 5 550 is more expensive, Wi-Fi version of 449 U.S. dollars (last year for 430 U.S. dollars), 3G version of 549 U.S. dollars (last year for 499 dollars).

Series 5 550 uses a new version of the Chrome OS system, which has been improved in a number of ways, including new application trays, custom backgrounds, multiple Windows support, and the integration of Google Drive,google document offline editing and Remote Desktop applications.

In short, Series 5 550 still uses entry-level hardware configurations, but performance is better and cloud functionality is improved. With Chrome OS fully web-oriented, Series 5 550 cannot be a powerful device, but Series 5 550 should be faster. Series 5 550 is still hard to sell, given the close proximity to lower-priced notebooks.

Chromebox

Samsung has also launched a desktop PC Chromebox Series 3 running the Chrome OS.

Similar to the series 5 Chromebook, this mini PC configures the Intel Celeron dual-core processor and 4GB memory. On the connection line, Series 3 Chromebox supports N, Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth 3.0,DVI interface, 6 USB 2.0 ports, and 2 displayport++ interfaces. The DisplayPort interface is compatible with HDMI, DVI and VGA.

The Chromebox Series 3 weighs only 2.45 pounds and has a thickness of 1.3 inches, with a square fuselage and a side length of 7.6 inches. Series 3 is priced at $329 (excluding monitors, keyboards and mice). However, Series 3 lacks an HDMI port, processor performance is less than the core i5/i7, and no stand-alone display is used.
