Hitachi Data System (HDS) announced a cloud strategic plan consisting of three cloud levels, but did not disclose any details about specific products.

The Hitachi Data System strategy includes adding BlueArc and Parascale scale-out file systems to existing storage offerings. It will also provide 3 cloud services, either on demand or on a traditional basis.

Hitachi Data Systems say the company's basic vision is to allow users to create a single pool of storage resources, composed of virtualized modules, file and content storage resources, to support traditional it and cloud delivery through a single integrated architecture. In other words, Hitachi Data systems are trying to integrate their storage resources with existing data center servers and network resources to make themselves a separate storage provider. It has planned a "three-step strategy" to transform the datacenter into an information centre.

The 3 cloud ratings It plans are: infrastructure cloud, content cloud, and information cloud.

"We use the infrastructure cloud as the most basic set of features that can help us solve relatively large problems, and the infrastructure cloud is a set of tools in the Toolbox," Miki Sandorfi, chief strategist for Hitachi's Data Systems and cloud department, wrote on his blog. On the content cloud, we focus on leveraging the powerful infrastructure provided by the infrastructure cloud, as well as adding a variety of features to liberate the data, allowing it to be freely used and reused, and it can achieve the flow of content. Finally, this points to the information cloud, where we use the powerful infrastructure cloud and the post-liberation data from the content cloud for sophisticated analysis. ”

Hitachi Data Systems claim that infrastructure clouds can aggregate virtualized servers, storage devices, and network resources that can be scaled on demand, providing a single virtualization platform for all data. In our view, this means that other vendors have virtualized server and networking resources, as Hitachi Data systems are not yet ready to include Hitachi servers and networking equipment in this concept.

Although Hitachi Data Systems do not disclose detailed information about specific products, we can assume the important role of the Hitachi Data Ingestor (HDI) system, which is associated with core Hitachi Content platforms (HCP) on the storage array layer.

Content Cloud

"The content cloud is built on infrastructure virtualization, and it goes a step further through virtualized application data and Access protocol data," says Hu Yoshida of the Hitachi Data System. We extract the data from the container together with the metadata that describes it and the policies that govern it, and then virtualize the process.

"This data container becomes a target that can be searched, accessed, and recycled, and does not require the application that created it." We use the RESTful protocol to virtualize access protocols so that data can be accessed via an iphone or Android device on a GSM network, a tablet computer on a 3G network, or a workstation on a LAN network. Content can also be accessed via CIFS or NFS front-end devices, or through the virtual file system on our Hnas high-performance file Manager. ”

The Hnas product is a BlueArc file manager. The content cloud is on the BlueArc bridge between it and the infrastructure cloud.

Hitachi Data System in the press release said: BlueArc provides a key link between the infrastructure cloud and the content cloud, and it has extensive expertise in file-based virtualization, built-in intelligent tiering, and automated data mobility for unstructured data. Tight integration with Hitachi document, content, and module products helps customers control their unstructured data, providing seamless access, search, retention, consolidation, and archiving.
