For several months, Carl Icahn, a radical investor, has been urging ebay to split its PayPal business. Now, as ebay finally begins to spin off PayPal, the activist investor has new ideas.
In a new blog post he posted, he pointed out that if PayPal wanted to really go ahead in the payment industry, its next step would be to help consolidate the payment industry through acquisitions or mergers.
"Given the emergence of a strong competitive posture, such as Apple Pay, the sooner the consolidation of the payment industry arrives, the better." "he said.
Apple has established partnerships with stripe, rather than PayPal, to support its Apple Pay service.
Because of ebay and PayPal split, Icahn made 180 million dollars.

We are delighted to see that ebay's board of directors and management have taken responsibility for splitting up the PayPal business. This step may come a little late, but still earlier than we expected.
As I said before, I still think that companies like PayPal should be split up to boost the value of this great asset and benefit all shareholders. It's something you don't have to think about.
I think PayPal is an important part of the payment industry and it should be consolidated by acquiring or merging other payment companies. It can be bought or merged through a Reverse Morris Trust. Given the emergence of a strong competitive posture, such as Apple Pay, the sooner the consolidation of the payment industry arrives, the better.
As one of ebay's biggest shareholders, I am interested in discussing this issue with John Donahoe, CEO of ebay, in the near future. Donahoe As I said before, I still believe that he has always been responsible for creating value for shareholders. (Le study)
