At the very least, you want to encrypt the data stored in the cloud. The main purpose is to ensure that the CSP of the managed data cannot be read if it accesses the data according to law.

Storing encrypted data in someone else's facility, even if the facility is in the legal investigation phase, guarantees the security of the data. In short, while encryption itself does not exempt you from legal scrutiny, it can at least control the data from being seen.

Most cloud storage applications use local storage to cache data because it can move back and forth between CSPs. This type of local storage should also be encrypted. If the hard drive needs to be processed, local encryption will protect it. Unlike a RAID system, although it is still readable, it is difficult to read data from an obsolete drive. These caches can be stored on a single hard drive and are easier to read without encryption.

In fact, under the current technical conditions, absolute security is impossible to achieve. In this case, choosing a cloud storage provider should be based on a risk-based approach.
