The author describes the process of deploying an application using the workload deployer Version 3.1 user interface setup and configuration cloud. The example uses the VMware ESX 4.1 or PowerVM Virtual machine management program.

Ibm®workload Deployer is a http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/11585.html "> Hardware device that provides access to IBM middleware virtual mirrors and schemas, Allows you to create an application environment that can be deployed and managed securely in a private cloud. Workload Deployer provides a web-based user interface tool and a command-line interface tool for automating, fast, consistent, and repeatable deployment of virtual mirrors, devices, and application patterns.

The typical steps for deploying and configuring workload Deployer and setting up a private cloud are as follows:

The physical installation of the

device, including installing the device in a rack, connecting it to the network, accessing the power cord, and connecting it to a serial console. Complete the initial configuration of the device through the connected serial console, including accepting license terms, configuring IP addresses, DNS, and default gateways. After completing this step, you can access the workload Deployer Management console from a different machine connected to workload deployer through a supported Web browser. Other configurations of the device include adding more network adapters, DNS partitions and mail servers, configuring backup and restore of workload deployer, and setting up time zones. These can be performed by the Cbadmin user through the WEB management console. After you have used all the resources in the private cloud (such as ESXi hypervisor, IP address), you are ready to add the resource to workload Deployer and configure the cloud environment. There are 3 types of tasks: Create users and groups of users as needed. Enable required virtual mirrors and mode types. Add resources such as IP groups, cloud groups, and virtual machine management programs, and deploy shared services. Deploy virtual systems, applications, and devices into the cloud and use them for testing, development, or production. Maintain and monitor the cloud.

This article focuses on how to configure the cloud environment using the Workload Deployer user Interface tool. The screenshot in this article displays the VMware ESX Virtual Machine Management program in IBM workload Deployer 3.1.0.1. Figure 1 shows the necessary steps in the recommended order.

Figure 1. Cloud Environment Configuration steps

It is important to properly configure the cloud environment for your application. In workload deployer, only cloud administrators have the right to set up cloud environments, even though developers and testers will use it to run applications. If the cloud environment is not properly configured, then developers and testers may not be able to resolve any problems that arise because they do not have access rights. For testers or developers, it is not always obvious what a cloud administrator can do to solve a problem.

Let's take a look at some of the basics of configuration and procedures for configuring the cloud environment for application deployment.

Basic knowledge of cloud environment configuration

Configuration considerations

Cloud administrators should consider a number of factors when configuring the cloud environment.

Authorization required to configure the cloud environment
Most of the subtasks in the Cloud environment configuration (in addition to user and user group creation and management) can be completed by workload Deployer users with full cloud administrator rights. Users and groups of users can only be managed by workload Deployer users with appliance-administrator-with-full-permission rights.

In fact, there is no direct correspondence between the cloud Administrator role and workload deployer Cloud Administrator permissions. In this article, the Cloud Administrator refers to the real user role. The workload Deployer permissions required for each step are clearly stated.

User and user group authorization to use the cloud environment
After configuring the cloud environment, you need to create a user ID to use the new cloud. The cloud administrator considers what permissions are required for each individual user based on their role.

Resource Preparation
The physical server should have installed and configured the virtual machine management program. If you use vcenter to manage ESX servers, you should add the VMware ESX Virtual Machine management program to the VMware vcenter server. The IP address should be configured with a host name that can be resolved by DNS, and VLAN configuration should be established if the VLAN will be used.

Initial configuration steps

To set up workload deployer to create and deploy virtual application patterns, virtual database schemas, and virtual system patterns, you must perform some initial steps.

Before you configure a cloud environment, you should do a number of things:

virtual machine hypervisor, such as the VMware ESX used here, configures IP addresses, host names, DNS, and default gateways for servers that have ESX installed. Configure storage and virtual switches. If you are using vcenter to manage ESX, you should register the ESX virtual machine management program with the vcenter server. The network allocates sufficient IP addresses for use by virtual machines that are managed and deployed on virtual machine management programs. These IP addresses should have host names that can be searched through DNS servers. If you plan to use a VLAN, configure it correctly.

The remaining chapters will show you the configuration tasks and subtasks that are required to configure the cloud environment.
