This section explains how to set up a DSL broadband connection for Commonwealth users using Thomson SpeedTouch-USB (including similar products) modems. These modems usually use "Speedtch" drivers in other systems.
If you are using a 2.6.10 and a later version of the system kernel, then you just need to load the PPP and LIBATM1 packages. Do not load the appropriate SpeedTouch driver files that are provided with the product.
Download hardware driver upgrades from the Alcatel Web site and unzip using modularity extractor. If 211.html "> think this is more troublesome, then you download and install an unofficial modularity package (for example, by the terminal interface Input Dpkg-i speedtouch-firmware_0.3012k.deb) on the line.
When the driver upgrade file is loaded, it can be started as long as the modem is disconnected.
Copy/usr/share/doc/ppp/examples/peers-pppoa file to/ETC/PPP/PEERS/ADSL.
In the/etc/ppp/peers/adsl file, add your username to your ISP provider and set up VP and VC identification 0.38 (the user name provided by different ISP vendors will vary).
To upgrade the Pap-secrets and chap-secrets in/etc/ppp/(or individually), add your username to each "USERNAME" "*" PASSWORD line.
After the system starts, you can use the Common command "Pon ADSL" to start the connection.
