Good news and bad news, which one do you listen to first? The good news is that Hewlett-Packard released its third-quarter performance in fiscal year 2011, with net revenue of $31.2 billion, up 1% per cent, and a profit of 1.926 billion dollars, up 9% per cent. The bad news is that HP has announced a total abandonment of its webOS-based tablet and smartphone program and is considering stripping the PC business. As HP announces its plans to buy the UK autonomy software company and abandon all its product development and promotion programs based on webOS, we again feel the hard and confused way that HP, the world's largest it vendor, has been transformed in the era of cloud computing. If HP insists on the Web OS platform, with HP's market position and brand image, webOS is not likely to occupy a niche in the tablet market. But the "niche" is not what HP's CEO, Apotheker, wants, and certainly not what HP wants. (According to CNET)
