Beijing time September 12 Morning News, Hewlett-Packard (36.76,-0.27,-0.73%) is about to acquire cloud computing software developers Eucalyptus BAE. HP CEO Whitman Meg Whitman is trying to strengthen HP's business with a new acquisition. Eucalyptus was founded in 2009. The company's technology helps corporate users save, process, and publish computing data over the Internet. The company is based in Goleta, Calif., after acquiring 55.5 million dollars in 3 rounds of funding. According to sources, the price of HP's acquisition is less than 100 million dollars. The deal shows that HP will restart the acquisition. In 2011-2012, Hewlett-Packard bought software maker Autonomy at a price of $10.3 billion, but then made a 8.8 billion dollar write-downs. HP is now the world's second-largest server manufacturer. And as more and more corporate customers begin to build their own cloud computing networks, HP wants to drive growth in related businesses. As part of the acquisition, Eucalyptus CEO Marten Mix (Marten Mickos) will join HP as Senior Vice president. He will become the general manager of HP's cloud computing business, replacing Martin Fink. Fink, who was in charge of HP's cloud computing business, will remain as Hewlett-Packard's chief technology officer and HP Lab director. Meeks will report directly to Whitman. HP's cloud computing hardware, software and services will be branded with HP Helion and will be serviced by Amazon (330.52,-0.81,-0.24%), Google (581.35,-1.75,-0.30%) and Microsoft (47,0.16,0.34%) cloud computing platforms, and competition for software products from companies such as VMware (96.7,-0.68,-0.70%), Citrix and Red Hat. "We can help you build the cloud computing platform the way you want it to, and you can focus on the product," said Bill Hilf, senior vice president of Bill SCHILF's cloud products management. Eucalyptus previously worked with Amazon for a long time. In early 2012, two companies agreed on a broad range of cooperation agreements to make eucalyptus technology better suited to Amazon's cloud computing services. Eucalyptus's Open-source software helps corporate managers manage enterprise data centers in the same way that Amazon's cloud computing platform is used. Eucalyptus fully supports Amazon's API (Application interface). HP's HP Helion products are based on OPENSATCK, a different cloud computing software standard with its own API. Meeks said in early August that he hoped Eucalytus would be better able to participate in OpenStack. Meeks previously served as MySQL CEO of the database software company, which was acquired by Sun in 2008. He worked as Vice president at Sun until March 2009. In the fast-growing cloud computing market, eucalyptus recently had a difficult time, Meeks said in a blog post in August this year that after the challenge of 2010, we had turned Eucalyptus's bow. Hewlett-Packard said the acquisition of Eucalyptus is expected to be completed within this fiscal year, with Hewlett-Packard ending in October. (D-Gold)
