HP opens OpenStack based cloud services

HP launched a OpenStack cloud service this month, with a number of promises but a lot of promises that haven't really materialized. HP's cloud services are intended to cover both public and private clouds. First, although you need to provide a credit card number for authentication, the beta is free (no fees are paid for using the beta version).

There are two main services available: computing and storage, roughly similar to Amazon's Web service and S3. Although HP intends to add more kinds of Linux servers and extend support to Windows servers, the current computing server includes four types of Linux operating systems. Each server has a public IP address, you can log on to the server via an SSH terminal session to install the package, and configure the cloud storage to be allocated to the server. To step back, the Web Control panel is redundant.

HP's cloud service loves the command line. You can choose to use Linux/mac OS standard commands, or run the Windows PowerShell command or run http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/13366.html > Eucalyptus Euca2ools. You can review the various open Software API documentation used by these command-line tools.

Compared to the dense urban environment built by Amazon and other cloud service providers, HP's cloud computing is on the western frontier. The idea of HP cloud computing is that you can build your own environment at will, and the server is Linux so you don't have to worry about looking for documents or forums to get help. You could build a cloud solution faster than in AWS, but it would be great if HP could import the AMI as a starting point for the AWS.
