HP released its next-generation server Gen8 in Monday. This server integrates new technologies to reduce maintenance costs and power costs across the data center while maintaining high server uptime.
HP says the GEN8 server has new hardware and software technologies to improve performance per watt and reduce manual labor to update servers. Automatic Updates and server load Balancing will save $ millions of in 3 years.
This new server addresses the limited space within the data center and balances the need to improve processing power, while also reducing power costs. HP said the servers contained the technical results of HP's 300 million dollar project, code-named Project Voyager, over the past two years. HP has managed to find ways to automate data centers and reduce costs in the research project. The research project produced more than 900 new patents and a new system architecture called the HP Proactive Insight.
HP is also implementing another project called "Project Moonshot" to transform the server architecture. In this project, HP will use Calxeda chips based on ARM processors in its own servers to provide high-performance computing power for cloud-related workloads.
The new HP Gen8 server will be listed in March. HP does not provide all the technical specifications for the server. But the initial detail that HP released earlier this month was that the server was a multi-channel server with Intel's upcoming E5 processor. The GEN8 server will eventually replace the ProLiant G7 series. Proliant G7 was launched in 2010 to configure Intel or AMD x86 processors.
HP is expected to disclose details of such servers at a press conference this week at Las Vegas's global partner conference.
