HTC flagship infringement Nokia banned in Britain

On December 4, the British High Court ruled in Tuesday that HTC one mini smartphone was banned from selling in the country since December 6, violating Nokia's patents, the Financial Times reported. Late last month, the High Court in England and Wales ruled that some of HTC's equipment, including HTC One, violated Nokia's standard patent for mobile networks. The judge, Richard David Arnold, who is in charge of the lawsuit, said that Nokia had only authorized a ban on HTC One mini handsets, but had postponed issuing a ban on HTC a handsets, so HTC could appeal. Arnold said the delay in issuing the HTC One sales ban was due to the potential loss to HTC if HTC stopped selling the flagship smartphone between now and next February or March. According to court documents, HTC sold 715,000 smartphones in the UK between January and September this year, earning 221 million pounds (about 362 million US dollars). In a statement, Nokia said that HTC had previously agreed to suspend sales of infringing equipment in the UK except HTC One. While winning the lawsuit, they will pay HTC additional financial compensation.
