Imperial Institute of Technology has signed a memorandum of understanding with Huawei to consider working together to establish research and innovation centres to jointly develop the next generation of large data technologies.

With the help of the British Government, Imperial Institute and Huawei are planning to build a large-scale center of business experts and academic researchers to achieve innovative and applied results in the fields of digitalization, energy, medical care, future cities and life sciences.

The Imperial College of London, the world's leading university, and Huawei, the world's second-largest maker of networking equipment, will spend a year exploring the details of a joint center, tentatively located in the City of London, the new research campus of imperial Science.

The cooperation agreement was signed by Xu, chief administrative officer of Huawei's corporate business group, and Mr. Keith O ' Nions, President of Imperial Institute of Technology, which agreed on specific matters for cooperation between the two sides. Notably, the document was signed a few months after the British Parliament's investigation into the relationship between Huawei and BT, Britain's largest telecoms and broadband service provider.

Mr Ren, Huawei's chief executive, has just met with British Prime Minister David Cameron and announced that the company will spend 2 billion of billions of dollars (1.3 billion pounds) on the UK economy, and a few days later the news of Huawei's cooperation with Imperial science.

The British Parliamentary intelligence and safety committee said there was no evidence that Huawei's technology contained tools to allow China to spy, a statement that struck back at the US authorities ' decision to ban Huawei from operating in the US by protecting its potential security grounds. However, the Committee cautioned that there was still a need to remain vigilant about cyber threats from abroad.

In response to the news, Xu commented that research and development "has always been the primary focus of Huawei" and that Huawei will continue to implement the idea in the UK's bid.

David Willets, the University and Science minister, praised the move as "maintaining Britain's leading position in global data technology." He added:

"As one of the eight key technologies of the future, large data will help scientists study and analyze mass information sets to support innovative development in many areas, including space science, life sciences and health care." ”
