Beijing time September 20 Evening news, according to foreign media reports, Huawei spokesman said in Monday, Huawei plans to the end of the year in the southern Indian city of Chennai (Chennai) to establish a network equipment manufacturing plant. The spokesman did not disclose investment in the new plant, but Huawei said at the beginning of the year that it would invest $500 million in India in the next five years, including construction and research costs. Huawei said last year it would consider setting up manufacturing plants in India. Earlier this month, Huawei won a contract for the supply of 3G equipment to Tata Teleservices, India, suggesting that the Indian government has withdrawn its ban on imports of telecoms equipment from Chinese manufacturers. For security reasons, the Indian government has banned Chinese telecoms equipment manufacturers since last December. In July this year, the Indian government issued an embargo list for Chinese telecoms equipment manufacturers. These vendors will be temporarily barred from providing equipment to Indian mobile operators until new cyber-security standards are implemented. Later, in negotiations with the Indian government, Huawei suggested that the Indian government establish an independent Third-party security Inspection Committee. A spokesman for Huawei said the restrictions were likely to be lifted this month. The spokesman also said that by producing locally in India, Huawei hoped to be able to launch its products at a faster rate, saving logistical and transportation costs. As a competitor to Huawei, Nokia Siemens and Ericsson have factories in India. At present, Huawei is located in India Bangalore (Bangalore) research and Development Center employs about 2000 people. In addition, Huawei also has 4,000 sales and technical support staff in India. Huawei also said in July that it would sell "Huawei"-branded handsets in India through retail outlets, in addition to selling handsets through Indian operators. (Li Ming)
