People have been waiting for IBM to enter the cloud computing field. This Wednesday, IBM took a step in that direction.

IBM announced in Wednesday a training and partnership program designed to enhance its channel http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/37311.html "> Network's ability to sell a wide range of cloud services." IBM will provide technical training and donations to invest in technology and marketing to help build its own cloud channels.

This is the latest step taken by IBM after assessing its cloud strategy. At the same time, Dell has released products to enhance its public cloud storage in recent weeks. HP has set up a new agency in its cloud sector that focuses on products and technology.

IBM executives say IBM is pushing its partner ecosystem in line with the company's broad cloud strategy. IBM has used its Puresystems technology to provide users with the services to build private clouds. Puresystems technology integrates computing, storage, and network hardware, and branding is named Pureflex. IBM also provides virtual machines and storage, SaaS (software as a service) implementation tools at the infrastructure level, and provides a PAAs (Platform-service) service for developers to make new applications in the IBM cloud.

However, IBM's Wednesday initiative was designed solely to build its own channel partners. IBM is counting on extending its partner ecosystem to midsize service providers. "This is a good move," said Carl Brooks, an analyst at 451 Research Group, a marketing firm. Carl Brooks. Companies are increasingly looking to managed service providers to invest in infrastructure and cloud-based services rather than direct recourse to cloud service providers. IBM is looking to expand the number of partners that leverage IBM's technology offerings. This is the direction of market development, Brooks said. IBM's wide range of products, such as Puresystems and Smart Cloud, will provide IBM with enough ammunition to play an astonishing role in the channel market.

IBM says it already has a network of medium providers such as velocity, CenterBeam, Peer 1 Hosting, Perimeter, and Oxford NX. The move is aimed at expanding the network. IBM says it wants its total cloud revenue to reach $7 billion trillion by 2015.

In addition to technical investment and marketing grants, IBM will open 4 new global centres of excellence in Shanghai, Tokyo, Germany Ningen and New York to improve training and then manage this new network of partners. (Compiled/Populus euphratica)
