With the advent of the new Internet era, new business models and new user habits force enterprises to face major decisions in transition and development. It is based on the new trends in the industry that IBM is pushing for a major transformation in its century-long history: abandoning Low-value/profitable businesses (such as selling hardware such as System x based on X86 architecture) and turning to services (IBM as a SERVCIE--IBM service, This includes the ability to provide a variety of cloud services, as well as the original hardware and business.
Around IBM, IBM has accelerated acquisitions in recent years, and over the past eight years IBM has invested $7 billion in acquisitions, including software, services and infrastructure. In June 2013, it took $2 billion to buy SoftLayer, an important part of IBM's cloud computing strategy. The acquired SoftLayer is no longer just a hosted cloud of IaaS, but the foundation of IBM's cloud computing business. IBM is implementing Paas/saas services with SoftLayer as a cloud base.
At IBM Forum 2014, IBM announced a transformational strategy based on cloud computing, large data, and social mobility, and SoftLayer as IBM's future cloud computing base will play an integral role in the entire "IBM Service" system. At the communication meeting, Ms. Luo Ruiyi, general manager of the Global Information Technology Services Division of Greater China and Mr. George Karidis, chief operating officer of IBM SoftLayer, discussed SoftLayer's Landing in China with the domestic media.
Ms Luo Ruiyi said that in 2016, 25% of applications were developed based on the cloud, and 85% of the new software developed today could be deployed and applied to the cloud immediately after completion, which would change the pattern of information technology work. SoftLayer provides dedicated hosting and shared hosting services and establishes an infrastructure environment and platform that covers the global scope. Surprisingly, before SoftLayer was acquired and consolidated, domestic users had begun to try and use the IBM Softlyer Public Cloud service.
At the IaaS level, cloud service providers can provide dedicated cloud hosting services, virtual machine services can also be provided, but for users of a slightly larger information system, as with traditional data center services, the business and application of their critical business support with several other users is mixed in one or several ( Through the dynamic migration of virtual machines, you can realize the migration of virtual machines between several physical machines. The sense of service may not always be reassuring to Chinese it executives. and dedicated cloud host can be used alone, also can share several business application support, can obtain exclusive bandwidth, and with cloud computing tag service capabilities, can let dedicated cloud host in the shortest 15 minutes to complete all the preconfigured.
Mr. George Karidis, who shared the idea of SoftLayer, said that SoftLayer from the outset, he sought to optimize the cloud computing experience from three angles of automation, innovation and customer empowerment. Sotlayer provides a flexible and scalable platform for automation; Innovation is based on the original, with the development of the market dynamic technology to add new features, functions and services, enhance the customer's ability to give customers greater transparency and in-depth insight into the infrastructure, users through the form of the API to order, Management and use of services. SoftLayer is based on these three points to ensure flexibility, security, and controllability, as IBM has hoped, to help the enterprise transition.
It is understood that due to restrictions such as telecommunications licensing, IBM will not be able to build its own data center (in addition to the Hong Kong Data Center), is currently seeking domestic partners. The SoftLayer Chinese website will be located in the location, the relevant infrastructure is in place, by the IBM in Shanghai Research and Development Center set up and online, is expected at the end of June this year, the beginning of July Landing, site in the vicinity of Shanghai. In addition to the existing Web services, foreign access management controls are increased through mobile device applications.
From past experience, the SoftLayer data center requires a small but fine team to ensure that the data center is operational all day, and that typically 15-18 operators are responsible for data centers outside the sales and marketing teams. SoftLayer's experience in Singapore and Hong Kong is the deployment and operation of 20-25 professionals in the data center, which is expected to be the same in mainland China.
Future SoftLayer will serve as the base platform for IBM cloud services, relying on SoftLayer to provide SaaS services. At present, IBM has a total of 114 SaaS products and will provide services to customers in all the data centers in China in the future. It is also based on the requirements of these SaaS services, the landing of the SoftLayer platform is imminent. As I said earlier, the acquired SoftLayer is not just a managed cloud of IaaS, but a part of IBM's overall cloud computing business. IBM is implementing Paas/saas services with SoftLayer as a cloud base. SaaS products are ready, Bluemix platform is being perfected, SoftLayer is about to be completed, IBM has predicted, more proactive embrace of the market and users, believe that the blue giant image after the transformation of the more brilliant.
