According to union News, several of the businesses most affected by the layoffs include:

1. Software Division Marketing Department: 222 people were cut

2. Systems and Technology division, semiconductor Research and Development department: 165 people were cut

3, Software Division, Information Management Department, 137 people were cut

4, Software division, Industry Solutions Department, 126 people were cut

5,STG Storage System Development Department: 121 cut

In addition, the number of job cuts in four other sectors exceeded that of hundreds: GPS and delivery departments, STG advanced Microelectronics Programme, STG Electronic design automation and software division.

IBM has not announced the total number of layoffs planned, but chief financial officer Markloughridge has said most of IBM's layoffs in the two quarter will take place outside the United States. He said spending on layoffs this year would reach $1 billion trillion, mostly in the two quarter.

One analyst reckons that the 1 billion dollar cost of layoffs means IBM's global cuts are between 6000 and 8000.

So far, IBM has laid off 128 people in Denmark, 250 in Italy and 700 in Germany, according to information published by IBM. IBM may cut 1000 people in Australia, and in China, U.S. technology media quoted Tencent technology as saying it could lay off 500 people.
