Beijing time November 7 afternoon news, according to the U.S. It website Computerworld reported that IBM mainframe will start to support the Windows system in mid-December this year.

IBM has previously been interested in using Windows systems in the Zenterprise 196 mainframe. According to the latest news from IBM, the company's mainframe will support Windows management capabilities from December 16 this year. Users always want the data center to have new features. Currently, there are many windows-based applications that support mainframe access to data, including many applications made by IBM. However, such applications must now be managed separately.

IBM says supporting Windows systems will help improve the security and speed of the mainframe enterprise environment, while allowing users to connect systems on private networks, avoid other network problems, and achieve integrated management. Greg Lotko, head of IBM's System Z Department, said: "The reason for the increased support for Windows systems is that IBM truly recognizes the complexities of the world." ”

Lotko added that from now on, the IBM system Z platform can support multiple systems such as z/OS, Linux, Unix, and Windows. The IBM move is good news for users, says Joe Clabby, a Clabby Analytics analyst at the Market Research Institute.

System Z is known for its ability to handle data transfers and batch workloads, while Linux is good at supporting Java workloads. System Z also has a feature that extends its management scope to ZBX systems, "making it easier to consolidate and process related data." ”

The consolidated management capabilities will reduce the amount of work required to run a mainframe environment running multiple operating systems, according to Clabby. "If you can manage it as a single structure, it saves money," he said. ”

Jean Bozman, analyst at IDC, a market research firm, says supporting Windows will make Windows applications and mainframe connections very fast. "In this way, the speed and end-to-end management of mainframes will be faster," she said. ”

Bozman concludes that IBM's decision to provide Windows support to mainframes is proof of IBM's view that distributed and mainframe worlds are getting closer to people.
